Hotprintz Bay of Islands Run/Walk FAQs
BIB COLLECTION
Your race number will need to be collected from the locations below:
Pickup location – Sport Northland – 97 Western Hills Drive, Kensington, Whangarei.
- Pickup - Thursday 18 May 2023- 12.30 pm – 5.30 pm
- Pickup - Friday 19 May 2023- 9.00 am – 5.00 pm
Pickup location - Paihia Village Green
- Pickup - Saturday 20 May 2023 from 3.00pm to 5.00pm
- Your event number has been supplied with pins; please attach this high on the front of your t-shirt or singlet.
RACE DAY SCHEDULE- (START TIMES)
Half Marathon
- 7.20 am - Half Marathon Safety brief
- 7:30 am - Half Marathon Starts
6km & 8.7km -
- 7.50 am - 6km & 8.7km Safety brief
- 8.00 am - 6km & 8.7km Events start
- 11:00 am – Prize giving (Weather Permitted)

COURSE MAPS
- This event consists of three distances, the 6km Walk, the 8.7km Run/Walk and the Half Marathon.

TIMING
- The event will use an electronic timing system.
- All participants will need to have their bib visible showing on the front of their torso.
- It is your responsibility to ensure that you are wearing the event number that has been registered to you.
- Please do not mix these up with other participants.
- Gun time will be used for official results.
PHOTOS
- Photos4sale provides a robust online platform capable of handling large numbers of images. Images are identified by bib numbers (by the human eye for accuracy and flexibility) and then offered for sale directly to athletes.
- We believe in the honesty and judgment of our customers and offer images with no fixed price. Photos4sale customers pay what they want!
DRINK STATIONS & TOILETS
Important Note-
Half Marathoners will need to bring a vessel to hold and refill liquid.
Cups are only available at the 6km and 8.7km Aid Stations.
Half Marathon
- Aid stations situated at approx. 7km, 10km, 18km, 19km, and finish
- Portaloos are situated at 7km, 10km, 16 km (WTMB PARK), and 19km.
- Public toilets at the start/finish and at the 1km mark.
8.7km
- Aid stations situated at approx. 4km, 5.5km, and finish
- Portaloos situated at 5.5km
- Public toilets at the start/finish and at the 1km mark.
6km
- Aid stations situated at approx. 2.5km and finish
- Portaloos situated at 2.5km
- Public toilets at the start/finish and at the 1km mark.
EVENT DAY PARKING
- You are welcome to park in one of many surrounding streets around Paihia, there is plenty of parking, but obviously the earlier you arrive, the closer you are to the Start/Finish.
FANCY DRESS
- We're excited to announce that this year's event is going to be even more exciting with our new Fancy Dress theme - BE SEEN!
- We encourage all participants to dress up in anything that screams visibility and grabs everyone's attention.
- From neon colors and bright wigs to your most creative outfit, let's make sure you'll stand out from the crowd!
- The most creative and eye-catching costume will win a special prize! So start planning your outfit and let your imagination run wild.
- The winner will be chosen at the prizegiving by the team from Hotprintz Whangarei.
- So, what are you waiting for, get your thinking caps on and get creative!
FIRST AID
- St Johns will be positioned at the start/finish area.
- Please inform a marshal if you or someone else requires assistance on the course. A tail marshal will follow the event.
MEDIA PLAYERS/HEADPHONES
For your safety, the use of MEDIA PLAYERS is discouraged. Should you choose to use a music device during the event, please have the volume at a level that ensures you are aware of your surroundings and other participants.
PRIZEGIVING
- We will have a live band TBC to keep you entertained while you relax after your race.
- Prize giving will be held on the Paihia Village Green at approximately 11.00 am- Weather pertmitting.
- Prizes will be awarded to the following categories, Top 3 Male and Female Finishers from the Half Marathon and the 8.7km.
- There will be plenty of awesome spot prizes to be won from our amazing sponsors and local businesses.
- Participants must be present at the prizegiving and show their event number to claim their spot prize.
- The spot prize draw: There will a be rip-off tag at the bottom of your race number. If you are going to stay around for the prize-giving at 11 am please rip off the tag and place it in the Spot Prize Container after you cross the finish line.
- In the case of bad weather leading to the cancellation of prize-giving, all prize winners will be notified the week following the event and listed on the event website and Facebook.
PRAM WALK/RUN
For the health & safety of your child and other participants, there are restrictions on this event that must be adhered to; marshals will be in place to ensure the following:
- Due to uneven terrain on parts of the course, Sport Northland advises that appropriate prams/buggies should be used.
- Pram walkers must remain in a single file (to allow other participants to pass safely).
HEALTH AND SAFETY
- Prams are allowed on the 6km & 8.7km.
- No DOGS
- No SKATEBOARDS OR SCOOTERS OR BIKES
- The event is held on public roads. Always treat all roads as open and expect oncoming and overtaking traffic.
- Please obey all traffic laws and regulations.
- Take extreme care when approaching driveways and side roads – expect vehicles.
- Where there is a lane coned for participants, you are always required to remain within the cones.
- Marshals will be wearing high-visibility vests and are there for your safety. Always follow their instructions and those of the event organisers.
- There will be a lead bike preceding the first participant (for the on-road section of the course) and a tail marshal following the last participant. If assistance is required, please stop and wait for the tail marshal or notify the nearest marshal.
- No animals (except guide dogs) are permitted to accompany participants during the event.
- Footpaths and footbridges are to be used where available.
- Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult.
KIDS 15 AND UNDER
- Dropping your child/children off by themselves or with a friend/s is not permitted at any time regardless of how many other adults are present, the child/children are the parents or guardians responsibility at all times throughout the duration of the event, not the responsibility of the event organisers.
CANCELLATION
In the unlikely event of cancellation, notice will be given on Northland's More FM 91.6 and on our Facebook Page. Where possible, attempts will be made to email participants who have supplied an email address with their entry. While we will endeavour to make a decision to cancel an event as early as possible due to the nature of such events, situations can occur. See our refund structure below.
