The Race Across California is a 100 day virtual challenge taking you from the California & Nevada border west to the Pacific Ocean! Participants can choose to walk/run, bike, row/paddle or swim. When you sign up you are automatically entered to participate in one or all of the categories.

Customize your SWAG (Save up to $20): Registration includes a Califonia themed race shirt, finisher medal & necklace. If you don't want all the swag you can remove items during registration. Each item will reduce your entry fee by the following amount:

No Shirt: Save $10
No Medal: Save $5
No Necklace: Save $5

INDIVIDUAL VS RELAY
**As an INDIVIDUAL you will complete your virtual challenge on your own, however you can affiliate yourself with a group, club or training team by designating a team/affiliation name. This will allow you to search for your group in each of the leaderboards. Please note for the INDIVIDUAL category this will NOT total your team miles together. Participants who register as a RELAY TEAM will have their miles added together as a team on the 600 Mile Walk/Run/Hike Relay Team Leaderboard. All relay team participants are also included in the individual 200 mile walk/run category. You will get to see your team progress on the 600 mile leaderboard and your individual progress on the 200 mile leaderboard. Grab your friends and participate against other teams in the Relay and still get to participate as individuals. There are no relay teams for the bike, row/paddle or swim categories.

REGISTRATION INCLUDES ACCESS TO ALL THE DISTANCES
You can record your results manually or by syncing your favorite GPS app or watch. When you record your results, Sodisp will automatically add them to the correct leaderboard based on how you classify your miles. Walk/Run miles will go to the walk/run leaderboard, bike miles will go to the Bike leaderboard, etc.

- Individual Walk, Jog, Run 200 Miles: Participants individually walk, jog, run or hike 200 miles.

- Individual Walk, Jog, Run 105 Miles: Participants individually walk, jog, run or hike 105 miles. If you would like to continue on after reaching 105 miles, participants are also included in the Individual 200 Mile Challenge!

- Bike 600 Miles: Participants bike (outdoors or on a spin/indoor bike) 600 miles.

- Row/Paddle 200 Miles: Participants Row or Paddle 200 miles. Activities can be done outdoors or on an indoor rowing machine.

- Relay Team 600 Miles: For all RELAY TEAMS it will be the combined walk, jog, run, hike mileage of everyone on your team. All team members will also be included on the 200 Mile individual leaderboard to track your individual progress. If your team completes the 600 Miles, members will be able to individually continue to complete 200 Miles.

- BACK ACROSS CALIFORNIA: Want to continue the fun after individually completing 200 Mile walk/run or 600 Mile Bike?? Why not go BACK ACROSS CALIFORNIA?! All participants have the option to continue Back Across California once completing 200 individual miles in the walk/run or 600 miles in the bike. Please email us once you have completed your 200 miles and we will add you to the Back Across California!


IMPORTANT INFO:

The event tracking and live leaderboards are hosted on Sodisp. You will receive an email with the Verification Instructions to Sodisp about a week prior to the event start date. If you use gmail, please be aware that gmail will often send emails from info@mermaidseries.com to your "promotions" folder rather than your inbox. If you don't see the email in your inbox, PLEASE check your "promotions" and "spam" folders.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

INDIVIDUAL or RELAY TEAM:

Individuals: [200 miles for walk/run and 600 miles for bike] Solo challenge, but individuals can affiliate to a group, club or team.
- Example. Stephanie signs up to complete all 200 miles as an Individual. She creates the group named: Tails Across California. She tells her friends to sign up and wants them all to be affiliated with her group name. Her friends sign up as “Individuals” and have the option to affiliate their entry to Tails Across California. Once the challenge starts, you'll be able to search in the results for “Tails Across California” to see everyone associated to this group. Associating to a group allows your group to stay engaged, challenge each other and cheer each other on! [Note: Each individual needs to complete the 200 miles to finish]

Relay: [200 miles walk/run/hike] combine the miles of each team member to reach 200 miles. The more participants on your team, the faster your team will cover the 200 miles.
- Example: Brenda is the CEO of her company and she wants to encourage her co-workers to a healthy and team building challenge. She creates two teams for her company, "Awesome Company All-Stars" and "Awesome Company High Rollers." She invites everyone to sign up and join one of the teams.
- On the first day of the competition, the "Awesome Company All-Stars" start logging their first activities. Brenda completes 6 miles, Melissa completes 2 miles and Sally completes 4 miles. Together, team Awesome Company All-Stars has completed 12 miles and now has 188 miles to go.
- Each team member can walk, jog or run at anytime and in any location. Once the team member completes their walk, jog or run they need to log and record their miles on our website in order to add their miles to the team.
- The team, Awesome Company All-Stars will show up in the results and they'll be able to see how the team ranks in comparison to all the other teams. Each team member will also be able to see how many miles they've contributed towards the 200 mile goal.

Can I do both the 200 mile Walk/Run AND the 600 mile Bike?
Yes! When you register for the event you will have access to both leaderboards and can join in both categories. You only need to register for the event one time. Walk/Run/Hiking miles will count towards your 200 Mile challenge and any Biking miles will count towards the 600 mile bike. Please note these results will be on separate leaderboards and the walk/run and bike miles cannot all be combined together.

I already signed up as an INDIVIDUAL, can I still CREATE A GROUP/TEAM and affiliate my Individual entry to a group, club or team?
Yes! To create a group, club or team, go to the Race Roster registration page or click here on “Create a Team.” It will open up the create a team webpage. From the Team Type dropdown, select the “Individual - Group, club or Team.” Enter in a team name. Once you’ve created a group, club or team, go to your Race Roster "Athlete Dashboard" and sign in, then look for the "Join A Team” button. Click on the button, find the group/team name and submit. You'll now see the name affiliated with your entry.

I already signed up as an INDIVIDUAL, can I still JOIN A GROUP/TEAM affiliation that my friend created?
Yes, to affiliate your entry to a group, club or team go to your Race Roster "Athlete Dashboard,” sign in, and look for the "Join A Team” button. Click on the button, select the team you want to join and submit. You’ll now see the name affiliated with your entry!

I want to register as an INDIVIDUAL and associate my entry to the group that my friend created. How do I do that?
Great, go to the Registration Page and click on the Individual Entry. During the registration process it will ask if you want to affiliate your entry to a group, club or team. Click on the “Join a group, club or relay team” and from the dropdown menu find the name of the team you want to join.

How do we log our miles?
One way to log your miles is using a GPS enable watch or app on your phone to record your distance. You can sync your device with Sodisp to automatically upload your miles. You can also use a pedometer or simply drive the route in your car to record the distance of your favorite route. Once you’ve finished your walk, jog or run you’ll need to manually record your miles on Sodisp. As the miles get logged, the website will be updated and you’ll be able to see your accumulated progress. Participants will receive an email about a week prior to the event which will include detailed instructions and the personalized verification code needed to join the event in SODISP.

Will we be able to sync our Garmin, Strava, or other GPS device?
Yes! You can sync Garmin, Strava, Fitbit, Coros and Suunto devices to your Sodisp account.

Can we start logging miles before July 1st?
No, the virtual challenge will start on July 1st. You can log miles anytime between 7/1/23 at 12:00am PDT to 10/13/21 at 11:59 pm PDT. Please note, if you join Sodisp and have a synced device, you may see miles in your personal dashboard, but only entries submitted between the dates above will count towards results for this event.

What type of miles count towards my total?
Miles that are completed (walking, jogging, hiking, running or biking) with the intent of exercising will count. Do NOT log miles completed by driving, waterskiing or flying. Please Note: ONLY activities identified in Sodisp as a WALK, RUN, or HIKE will count towards the walk/run/hike category miles and show in the corresponding leaderboard. ONLY activities identified as BIKE will count towards the 600 mile bike category and show in the BIKE leaderboard.

I wear a Fitbit all day long and it records the miles I do when I’m walking around the office and at home. Do these count?
No, miles accumulated during your daily routine or work routine do not count. [Example: walking from the couch to the kitchen to the couch to the bathroom to the couch to bed, do NOT count]

I also like to bike, will the miles I accumulate when biking count?
Yes! Any activities identified as BIKE in Sodisp will count towards the 600 mile bike category and show in the BIKE leaderboard.

I just signed up, will we be getting an update with additional details? Yes, we will be emailing out an Athlete Update the week of the event. The update will also be posted on our website and the Mermaid Athlete Facebook page.
