Run/walk 5km to support Angela Parker-Brown as she continues to radiate light into the lives of everyone around her while fighting to live at full capacity sparkle regardless of her ALS diagnosis.
Informally living with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS – also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease) since late 2016 and formally diagnosed with ALS in June of 2018, Angie is an amazing person and single mother to her beautiful twin girls, Parker and Paris, who are currently 13 years old. Angie and I (Lavinia Carreau) have been talking through her eye gaze program. During one of our conversations, I asked her if she had tried running prior to being diagnosed with ALS.
Angie is now fully wheelchair-bound with a BiPap machine to assist her breathing. She shared that she had started running while on maternity in 2010 and loved it. Her first 5km was around Kiwanas Park here in Truro, N.S., and she cried tears of joy after successfully completing the Couch to 5km program. We joked that she would not even have to get off the couch now and I told her I would be happy to push her if she wanted to run again. Angie being Angie, responded “How fun would that be!” and “Let’s do it!.”
Angie’s energy and enthusiasm for life resonates with my late husband’s (Rob Carreau) “Why Wait?” mentality. Angie aims to show up being the best she can be each day, living each day to its fullest and with gratitude for all life offers.
Join us (virtually) on the weekend of January 7-8th to start the new year with a 5km run or walk in support of Angie’s beautiful family. All proceeds from the event will go directly to Angie and her girls to provide the support necessary in the years to come, and for their future education. Angie and I will share photos and videos of our run via social media – we would love if you could do the same through Angie’s ALS Journey at https://www.facebook.com/groups/2119105454871769.
For anyone who wishes to donate funds to Angie and her girls beyond the run registration fee, we have included an optional donation button at registration.
