Help Emily raise money

For participating in The 2023 ASICS Falmouth Road Race

My Story…

I am running my second Falmouth Road Race for Hospitality Homes because when we needed it, my family and loved ones have been very fortunate to live close to some of the top medical facilities in the World. Through an amazing network which included family, friends and colleagues - last year I was able to raise over $5,000 for Hospitality Homes. Lots of love to those who choose to support this 'non runner' runner in doing even more for those who travel to Boston for their healthcare needs.64095b86eaff1.jpeg

This year I am honored to run for Hospitality Homes in honor of Carol, a HH guest who was diagnosed with tracheobronchomalacia (TBM), a rare disease of her trachea and airways, resulting in chronic pneumonias requiring hospitalization.

Here is Carol's story:  "After a couple of initial visits in December, we arrived in Boston on December 28 from our home in North Carolina for what we thought would be several weeks at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, one of world’s best and few centers with a comprehensive TBM Program.  Due to 10 surgeries, procedures, and a few complications, our few weeks have turned into a few months and, thankfully our living arrangement has transitioned from a small VRBO studio apartment to a lovely Host Home where we have been for over 2 months.  I say “we,” but “I” is probably appropriate as Carol has been hospitalized for the greater part of our stay in Boston.
The word “Home” cannot be used enough to describe what Hospitality Homes has meant.  It means a warm cozy place to sleep, cook, eat, relax, read, pray, grieve, celebrate, and so many other things not possible in any other housing arrangement.  Our hosts, Jean and John Peteet, have become extended family to me who “get it” when it comes to what their guests need and what they are experiencing.  Besides us, they have welcomed our adult children and other guests who have come to Boston to support us.
Without Hospitality Homes, our journey would be very different, if not impossible.  It has lifted a huge financial, logistical, mental, and emotional burden from us, allowing us to focus on the reason we came to Boston, that being best-in-the-world medical care.  I describe Hospitality Homes and their mission with one word, that being a big “YES!”  Yes, we can help you; Yes, we understand your plight; Yes, you are not alone."

Description

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!

I'm so proud to be a member of TEAM HOSPITALITY HOMES in this year's Falmouth Road Race!

Your support means the world to me and will help continue to provide housing for patients and families traveling to Boston for critical medical treatment.

With the prohibitively expensive costs of local hotels- averaging $260 per night- and the lack of sufficient hospital- sponsored housing, many patients struggle with what to do, balancing these and other out-of-pocket expenses with the already high cost of responding to a complex or chronic illness.

Your donation is fully tax-deductible, as Hospitality Homes is a 501c3 non-profit organization.
