Help Lauren raise money

For participating in The 2023 ASICS Falmouth Road Race

OUR FINISH LINE SAYS ALS DONE!

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page! This is my first road race and I am excited to raise money for ALSOne along with an awesome crew running for #GranniesGang.

I lost my mum, my best friend, my kids' "Grannie," to bulbar onset ALS in February of this year. We spent almost 2 years living and suffering with this monster of a disease. It was an honor to be able to take care of her. Along the way, I learned very quickly that I needed to do something to help combat this cruel, relentless illness. I am still not exactly sure what that "something" is, but I am going to start by running this race!

My mum was my person. My velcro. I clung to her legs not wanting to go to Kindergarten, first grade, and even college. I called her to share good news, to talk about things that worried me, to vent when I lost my patience, to ask questions about recipes or home improvement projects, or to laugh when telling her something funny the boys said. For 14  years prior to her illness, I would call her after work every day as soon as I got onto 93. She always answered. In the summer of 2021 those calls became different. It became harder to understand her without being able to read her lips and expression. It quickly became too hard to talk and the disease continued to take her away from us.

She never complained. She continued to shake drinks, bake sweet treats and cook meals until she quite literally couldn't hold herself up at the kitchen counter. When hospitalized in January she wrote on her board "I am the luckiest." She loved us fiercely, especially her "babies," Grace, Conor, Tyler and Zoey. She also loves you ;)

My wish is that someday this disease does not mean what it meant to us. Being a research RN in Boston, I know how important raising money for research is and that is what I hope to do by running.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness, generosity, support and love.

I love you, Mum. So much more than 100.
