My Story…
Over the past few years, I have registered and ran the Falmouth Road Race just for fun. I recently started to follow this amazing organization and learned about all that they do - especially during the most recent Boston Marathon. Inspired by all of the positivity, I decided to run for a cause this year. I am honored and excited to represent and run for such an important and supportive foundation, the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism.
As a Special Education Teacher, I have experienced and come to understand the challenges and hardships that individuals with autism and their families face each day. I’ve also witnessed firsthand the successes and accomplishments achieved when provided with the appropriate support. The work that I do and have done has left a profound impact on my life.
With your support, I am hoping to reach my goal of $1,000. All of the proceeds will go directly to the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation to help support individuals and families in need.
Please consider donating, not only to help me achieve my goal, but most importantly, to support individuals with Autism. With your help, I will run for all those impacted by Autism, and for the successes/accomplishments to come in the future.
Description
Former NFL Quarterback, Doug Flutie, and his wife Laurie started the Doug Flutie, Jr. Flutie Foundation for Autism in 1998 after their son, Dougie, was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. Their personal experience of raising a son on the autism spectrum inspired them to help others on an equally long and challenging journey. Over its 25-year history, the Flutie Foundation has distributed over $14 million to schools and organizations that provide clinical therapies, respite services, recreational programs, social skills training, job supports and more for people affected by autism.
The Flutie Foundation also provides education technology tools, adaptive camp scholarships, safety equipment, and direct family support through its special programs. The Flutie Foundation’s newest initiative, Flutie Spectrum Enterprises, will help create businesses to employ adults with autism.
