Support. Inspire. Empower.
I am very excited to be running the Falmouth Road Race this year for the Herren Project. As many of you know, I lost my brother Will to addiction. I saw just how hard he fought, as well as my parents, to beat this all-consuming disease at the young age of 21. Will was a kind, gentle giant who had an infectious laugh that made you smile. Everyone knew how wonderful and worthy he was; except for himself at times. Addiction will do that.
Recovery is 24/7, every day, every second. My brother was just a few days out of treatment when he passed away, as many unfortunately are. Finding long term, sober living arrangements should be a non-negotiable, regardless of financial circumstances.
My family has been blessed to find community with others who have lost loved ones to addiction, but I only wish that we found a community like the Herren Project while we were living through it. Through education, open conversations, and groups like the Herren Project, I hope that more and more addicts and their families feel empowered to talk about their struggles, and feel worthy and able of choosing recovery.
