Team Eye and Ear Falmouth 2023

I'm proud to be running for Team Eye and Ear in support of the Ocular Genomics Institute!

25  years ago I was diagnosed at Mass Eye and Ear with Stargardt Disease, a rare inherited macular dystrophy that leads to the loss of central vision. There are roughly 30,000 of us in the US. My vision rapidly changed from age 12-22, at which point I was declared legally blind. Since that point, my vision has mostly stabilized. Unfortunately, there are no current treatments, and an accurate prognosis is still a challenge with there being many variants of the disease.

The Ocular Genomics Institute is working to better understand the underlying genetics of diseases like Stargardts. To date, the team of clinical scientists and researchers have pioneered some of the first gene therapy treatments in the eye, and they continuously build upon the understanding of the many forms of complex genetic eye disease, which will continue to lead to new breakthroughs.

Let's help them accelerate this work!

In 2019 I officially joined Mass Eye and Ear to help lead fundraising efforts for the Department of Ophthalmology.
