My Story…
As many of you know, I have a personal relationship with the Stem-Cell process at the Brigham. In 2009, I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgekins Lymphoma and underwent multiple rounds of chemotherapy to get better. Soon after being in remission, the great doctors and nurses of Dana Farber and Brigham & Women’s suggested I undergo a stem-cell transplant as soon as I fall back into remission. The stem-cell transplant process is not a light one, which involves harvesting cells, testing, undergoing intense chemotherapy and destroying my immune system. After 24 days in the hospital, I was able to start my recovery and officially be in remission once again with a lower chance of it coming back. Without the care and technology at the time under Brigham and Women’s hospital, my chance of surviving this sickness was extremely low. I am proof that funding and research for the stem-cell transplant process works, and I give my life to the doctors and nurses who helped me fight this sickness.
