Raise money for Downtown Eastside Women's Centre
The mission of the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre (DEWC) is to provide a safe, non-judgmental environment for self-identified women from all walks of life, who live and/or work in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside (DTES). DEWC has existed since 1978 to provide one of the few low-barrier, safe spaces in the DTES, a neighbourhood characterized by high levels of violence, homelessness, addictions, and poverty, where women and children are particularly vulnerable to exploitation and injustice.
DEWC operates low-barrier drop-in centre and shelter services throughout the DTES, which offer safety, supportive surroundings, nutritious meals, and basic essentials to women of the community. We are now serving over 700 women and their children 365 days per year - this is a 50% increase in the number of women accessing services at the Centre since provincial health and safety restrictions were relaxed on July 1, 2021.
Oftentimes, a hot nutritious meal is a gateway for the community's most vulnerable women to a continuum of holistic supports to improve her situation.
