On June 24, 2023, join the Washington DC Metro HBCU Alumni Alliance, Inc. for our 10th Annual Hybrid 5K Run/Walk and Community Day at the St. James Sports, Health, Fitness, and Entertainment Complex or virtually at any location!
If you chose the virtual option, the 5K run/walk can be held from any location you choose. You can run, jog, or walk on a road, a trail, a treadmill at the gym, or on a track. You can run your own race, at your own pace, and time it yourself.
If you choose to join us in-person for a fun 5K in Springfield, VA, this is a great opportunity for a morning run with fellow HBCU alumni and friends. There is plenty parking at the facility and overflow parking is available in adjacent areas.
Race Details - Please Read Before Completing Your Registration
In-person registrations include a commemorative medal, shirt, and a race bib. Timed bibs will be given to adult runners only. Walkers and children will receive untimed bibs.
Participants:
Child Registration: must be 12 or younger by the day of the event
Adult Registration: 13 or older by the day of the event
- IN-PERSON PARTICIPANTS: Race swag will be provided during packet pick-up. Please Designate your desired packet pick location while registering.
- VIRTUAL PARTICIPANTS: Race swag will be mailed prior to the race (MUST REGISTER NO LATER THAN JUNE 1st.) If you register after your swag will be mailed 30-45 days after the race. Shipping charges will apply.

You may also have someone pick up your race swag for you. If you are picking up a registration packet for another person, you will be required to provide the name and confirmation number at packet pick-up.
DO NOT bend or fold the race bib to ensure timing accuracy.
Virtual registrants will have their race packets mailed to them.
Virtual Participants
Prior to Race Day, virtual participants who registered by May 31, will receive a commemorative medal and shirt via U.S. Postal Service. Participants who registered after May 31, may not receive their race packet by June 24, 2023. Virtual participants have full access to our program on Race Day by streaming the DC Metro HBCU Alumni Alliance Instagram account or DC Metro HBCU Alumni Alliance Facebook account.
Virtual participants can choose the day, time, location, and type of activity to achieve a 5K (skating, treadmill, swimming, walking, running, etc). A total of 3.107 miles (5K) should be tracked via apps such as Strava, iWatch, RunKeeper, etc. Once the 5K is completed, virtual participants should record results by signing into their Race Roster account. Alumni Row and Vendors Opportunities
- ALUMNI ROW – This is the place for HBCU alumni, family, friends, and supporters to socialize and become reacquainted. HBCU Alumni chapters will have tables set up to provide information about each of the respective colleges and universities they represent; this is also an opportunity to meet other HBCU alumni in the Washington, DC Area. DCHBCUAA member chapters may reserve a table or marketing space in alumni row. The deadline to submit your reservation is June 9, 2023. For more information, and to complete the form click HERE.

Race Weather Policy
Safety of our participants is our top priority. In the event of adverse weather conditions, the Race Directors, in communication with local authorities may delay the event or cancel the Run/Walk.
The event may be delayed or canceled due to a Tornado Warning, Tornado Watch, Thunderstorm, Heavy Rain, or any extreme weather condition. Light to moderate rain is not considered an Adverse Weather Condition.
If the event is cancelled more than 12 hours before race start time, we will notify participants via the race website, email, and social media. Participants will be notified via email where they can pick up their race packets if they have not already done so.

Divine 9 Greek Giveback
The DCHBCUAA is excited to offer local Divine 9 organizations and the National Pan-Hellenic Council the opportunity to participate in our event.
This year's fundraiser will be a hybrid event on Saturday, June 24, 2023. This fundraiser is designed to help local Black Greek organizations to raise money for scholarships.
Organizations with 50 or more registrants will receive 100% of donations received with their registrations (less applicable fees).
Organizations with less than 50 registrants will receive 90% of donations received with their registrations (less applicable fees).
All Greek Giveback participants MUST select their chapter during registration.
Deadline to join the Greek Giveback Competition is June 9, 2023.

We have an improved race route this year!! It includes an island of fun for race participants and a finish party. Meet the Grand Marshal of our 10th Annual 5K Run/Walk!!
COACH SHANNON HARRIS 2023 GRAND MARSHAL
Coach Shannon Harris is the Quarterbacks Coach of the DC Defenders, the 2023 North Division Champions of the XFL.
Prior to joining the DC Defenders, Harris spent 16 seasons coaching football at the Division I level. Coach Harris is a major contributor to HBCUs. In 2022, he was named Virginia State University’s Interim Head Football Coach after serving as Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach at the University. Prior to being at VSU, Harris was the Offensive Coordinator at Tennessee State University. He has also been the Wide Receivers Coach and Passing Game Coordinator at Alcorn State University. Harris arrived at Alcorn after spending four seasons at Alabama State as quarterbacks coach. Prior to Alabama State, Harris spent a season at Hampton University as the quarterbacks coach and assisted with recruiting.
As a student-athlete, Harris started at quarterback for the Tennessee State Tigers, earning the role of team captain and Team Most Valuable Player. As an HBCU Alumni, Harris earned his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Tennessee State University and now he will help "DC HBCUs Run the District" as our Grand Marshal!
Virtual Photo Booth, Videos, & Finisher's Review
Take photos throughout the entire weekend of events- the "Runner's Reception", the "5K Run/Walk", the "Finisher's Party", etc., using our virtual photo booth. You can capture your experience beginning Friday, June 23, 2023 at 6pm thru Saturday June 24 at 6pm.
You can take photos, create a video, GIF, or Boomerang. Take photos anywhere to share your experience: on Alumni Row, at Vendor Village, on the Race Course, and virtually wherever you go! This includes our virtual participants- show us your journey too. Take as many photos as you want!

Every finisher wins when they cross the finish line! Immediately after the race, click here to review your race results on a printable Finisher's Certificate. We'll also give you a downloadable video of you crossing the finish line.
