PLEASE BE AWARE: We need to break down the event equipment so the Nature Center can open to the public on time. Because of that, we cannot accommodate runners who show up late! The 5k start line will close at 7:45 AM with absolutely no exceptions. 5k participants who show up between 7:45 and 8:00 am will still be allowed to participate in the Nature Walk, but not the 5k.
The 5k run course (start line open from 7:30 - 7:45 AM) is mostly flat but with some hills within the first .25 miles inside the Nature Center and at the end of the race. As you exit the Nature Center, then the course runs downhill and turns into flat and definitely fast roads, and, most of all, lots of fun! You'll start by running through the WNC Nature Center, then make your way through the park on the greenway. The course takes you right back to the Nature Center for the finish, making the whole race-day experience a breeze. The run will be open to vehicular traffic, so please run facing traffic when you are not on a sidewalk or greenway.
The Nature Walk (start line open from 7:45 - 8:00 AM) path follows a paved 3/4 mile route within the Nature Center grounds that is ADA-accessible. Your self-guided tour will include fun, nature-related prompts and activities. See the animals and enjoy the park at your own pace. If you'd like to get at least a mile walk in, feel free to walk the course twice!
There will be grab-and-go snacks and beverages provided by Earth Fare at the finish line so you can refuel for the rest of your day.
Due to the nature of this event and possible congestion and for the safety of the runners on the course, all 5k and Nature Walk participant and spectator vehicles must be parked by 7:25am (before the 5k race starts at 7:30am).
