GIVING BACK
Island Lake Conservation Area has been an amazing partner of the Island Lake Classic for over ten years. Their recent 25 year plan that includes several new improvements to the park, one of which includes the Vicki Barron Trail Re-Route Project.
If you would like to help support the Park, you can make a donation with your registration and you can also ask your family/friends to support your run by sending them the donation link.
Here's a message from the Credit Valley Conservation Foundation:
To the Island Lake Classic Participants,
Thank you! Your incredible support has helped us get through another challenging pandemic year.
Your fundraising efforts through the Island Lake Classic raised $1474.00 in 2022!
Like many other charities, we continued to adapt our fundraising methods to COVID-19 realities. It was only through the profound generosity from donors like you, that critical environmental projects carried out by Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) continued throughout 2022.
This includes Building the Credit Valley Trail and its FIRST Indigenous Placemaking Site: The Crane Gathering Space.
The CVC Foundation is committed to raising $10 million dollars in support of the Credit Valley Trail (CVT) – the priority for our Land Securement efforts. When complete, the CVT will be a 100-kilometre continuous, connected, river valley trail stretching from the headwaters in Orangeville through Caledon, Halton Hills, Brampton, Mississauga right to the shores of Lake Ontario. We are already on the path to success! Since the 2017 approval of the CVT Strategy, we have raised $3.7 million from countless partners and donors like you and your organization.
And the trail is growing. Last year with your help, we broke ground on the first of seven Indigenous placemaking sites, the Crane Gathering Space, CVT’s northern trailhead located at Island Lake Conservation Area in Orangeville. The Crane Gathering Space will be a place for community building, teaching, ceremony and other events. Its completion will bring a dedicated space for Indigenous peoples to express their culture and language. It will deepen their ancestral connections and traditional understandings of the Credit River and surrounding valley lands while informing all visitors of that heritage. Completion is scheduled for March 31st, 2023 - be sure to visit this incredible site this summer!
As we reflect on 2022 and all that you helped us achieve, we remain inspired by your commitment to our local environment and hopeful for what the new year may bring. Thank you for helping shape the future and for investing in the shared natural legacy of our Credit River watershed.
