My HBCU story started on the campus of South Carolina State College (now University) in Orangeburg, SC in the fall of 1970 when the basketball team attempted to jump three freshmen girls in the cafe. The team captain was my dad. The feisty freshman was my mom. That’s when my parents met! Since then, education, excellence, perseverance and pride have been the standard set.
