The Molokai Holokai Ho'olaule'a is a 2-day festival on the island of Molokai hosted by Youth in Motion and the Stand Up Paddle Association of Molokai.
The race lineup includes:
MAUI TO MOLOKAI CHALLENGE- MOLOKAI HOLOKAI DAY 1 Friday 14th July 2023
KAMALO RUN (MOLOKAI HOLOKAI-DAY 2) Sat 15th July 2023
The main purpose of the event is to celebrate and inspire our youth in all that they do. We are celebrating our 21st year since we started our celebration of Youth. We are not the typical race and have never had that intent since the concept in 2003. Instead, the focus is on our youth to inspire and motivate them and their families to be the best they can be. Come join us with this event and be part of the movement to inspire our Youth as they deserve a celebration.
Friday's event starts from DT Fleming Beach on Maui with racers crossing the Pailolo Channel in a 27-mile distance race open to all paddle craft and some wind craft.
The Maui to Molokai Race is our vehicle to come and celebrate our Youth and get to know our community.
As the race is starting on Maui there will be SUP/canoe experience/demo/clinics on Molokai along with a Mangrove and Gorilla Ogo clean-up service project. Prizes to the one who collects the most mangrove seeds, non-native and invasive vegetation as well as Gorilla Ogo. All Gorilla Ogo and Mangrove seeds need to be bagged for weigh-in.
Saturday's race is a 10-mile downwinder from Kamalo Harbor to Molokai Community Health Center located at the harbor. There will also be a range of other courses from the 3/4 mile, 2 miles, 4 miles, and 5 miles to the Health Center. The 3/4 mile race for the Keiki and Makua.
The Molokai Holokai Ho'olaule'a is a 2-day festival on the island of Molokai. A super fun weekend for all levels from the serious racer to the recreation and something for the whole family to enjoy!
The Virtual Molokai Holokai Global Challenge is open anywhere around the world that has water. Have some fun with your paddling and wind friends while we celebrate our youth both here on Molokai and around the world.
Our Mission Statement
"Empower, Equip, Educate, Challenge and Motivate Youth through activities that engage and develop their mental, emotional, creative and physical skills on the land and in the ocean."

Youth in Motion (YIM) was formed in 1998 and received its non-profit status in 2003. In celebration, Youth in Motion put on an event crossing the Pailolo channel in conjunction with a festival called Na Opio Hana Pa'a ( A Celebration of Youth Opportunities) that was held at Malama Park(2003-2007). The Maui to Molokai Crossing was centered around youth determined to make this crossing as young as eight and ten, with the adults celebrating their endeavors by crossing the channel with them. We are happy to see some of those same kids still participating to this day as World professional class athletes.
Since 2003, Youth in Motion has tried to put on an annual event to celebrate our youth with an ocean race from Maui and here on Molokai, evolving with the trends of the ocean non-motorized crafts to celebrate our youth. So day 1 is the mode of transportation to Molokai, and day 2 is the celebration of our youth. We have previously included athletic clinics with the University of Hawaii, music and film contests, a Miss Molokai pageant, and informational booths/live displays. We hope to continue inspiring our youth with a healthy lifestyle and opportunities available as we celebrate our 21st year of organizing this event.
Youth In Motion's Mission Statement: "Empower, Equip, Educate, Challenge and Motivate Youth through activities that engage and develop their mental, emotional, creative, and physical skills on the land and in the ocean."
Youth in Motion uses the event's profits towards annual insurance, YIM programs, and a community fund that Molokai's Youth organizations can apply for funding. All profits from the event will go towards the programs and community fund where we can help inspire our Molokai Youth and help with funding their endeavors.
Molokai is the center of Paddling Events with world-class athletes and events starting or finishing on our island in the prestigious World class paddling competitions. Our mission with the Molokai Holokai Ho'olaule'a is to share these ocean sports and an environmental clean-up of the Gorilla Ogo and Mangrove Seed with much of the community and encourage our youth to participate in a healthy ocean activity and lifestyle.
In addition to focusing on the youth, the Molokai Holokai Ho'olaule'a brings our local paddlers and community together to enjoy a festive weekend of healthy ocean activities.
"The Molokai Holokai Ho'olaule'a will embody our inherent Hawaiian cultural values - taking care of the land and sea, giving back to the community, honoring host culture/language, respecting others."
Racers will get the following:
Race Event Safety Jersey and Race Number
Molokai Holokai Race Medals
Pre Race Briefing - pupus and beverages
Local transportation to Hotel Molokai, Molokai Shores, Wave crest and One Ali'i Camping. Gratuity to the drivers is suggested and will make your driver happy!
Post race drinks, fruit bowels and leis
Transportation from harbor and accommodations listed above to the prizegiving and back
Post Race Dinner and Entertainment
Local transportation to the start of Day 2 Race
Shuttles to the harbor for boat trips back to Maui
The virtual race fees help raise funds for Youth in Motion on island programs.
You may order discounted race jerseys and shirts along with the shipping.
All Race Jerseys and Shirts automatically come with a Molokai Holokai medal.
