Q: What if there is bad weather that weekend?
Safety is the number one priority. NCC does not recommend starting your paddle if weather conditions are dangerous or could suddenly change. Please check weather reports before starting. If the weather in your chosen paddle area does not look safe and you’d like to paddle the following weekend, please email manitoba@natureconservancy.ca or saskatchewan@natureconservancy.ca so we can extend your ability to submit your hours.
Q: What should I take on my paddle adventure?
- Kayak, canoe or paddle board
- Paddle (1 per paddler), plus spare (canoe & kayak)
- Water bottle
- Sunscreen, hat and sunglasses
- Personal flotation device (1 per paddler)
- Dry bag for personal items
- Emergency tow line
Remember, to ensure you have communicated your planned route to another party and a time they can expect you to return.
Q: I have never used a canoe/kayak/paddle board. What should I do?
For first time paddlers, we recommend taking a paddling lesson to learn the basics of being on the water in a canoe, kayak or paddle board. There are many organizations who provide such lessons but a few examples are Manitoba Paddling Association or Saskatoon Canoe Club.
Q: I don’t have access to a canoe/kayak/paddle board; can I still participate?
Absolutely – we encourage you to sponsor one of our participants to show your support for nature.
Q: What is the kickoff huddle event?
On August 23rd we invite our participants to meet up, enjoy light food and beverages with the NCC team and pick up their registration SWAG. Please click here for event time and location.
Q: I cannot attend the kickoff event to get my SWAG, how can I get it?
No problem. All unclaimed kits will be taken to the NCC offices located in Manitoba or Saskatchewan. You can pop in during business hours to grab your kit at reception. The office hours are Monday to Friday 9:00-5:00 p.m. To call ahead visit the Manitoba location here or the Saskatchewan location here.
Q: I can no longer participate; can I get a refund?
There are no refunds. However, we can transfer your registration fee over to a donation to NCC and you can receive a tax receipt. Please email manitoba@natureconservancy.ca or saskatchewan@natureconservancy.ca to request this. Requests for transfers to a donation will be accepted until August 27, 2023.
