Kourageous Karter Race for Robot Legs
PRESENTED BY TRUSTPOINT
The Kourageous Karter Foundation aims to make life better for medically complex kids and the people who love them. One way we accomplish this is by taking on mission projects that directly impact children with disabilities in a big way. This event is supporting our mission project to raise money for medical technology that helps kids with disabilities walk. All kids deserve to be included, accepted, and experience movement side-by-side their peers. Help us give the life-changing experience of walking to children like Karter! Our family-friendly event is being hosted at an inclusive park. There will be accessible changing areas, play, silent auction, kid's fun run, face-painting, food trucks, and a 5k fun run/walk.
Not local? Can't make it? Join us virtually! Anyone can participate from anywhere by registering through our virtual component!
Our non-profit foundation is a 501(c)3 organization inspired by the parenting journey with our son, Karter. Karter was born with a severe Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) injury and not expected to survive. Despite telling us not to expect him to live past age 1, Karter will turn 7 this June. This injury left him with a severe form of cerebral palsy, and he is unable to walk, talk, or eat. That doesn't stop him! He uses adaptive equipment, feeding tube, and eye gaze communication device. He is the epitome of "kourage" and gives the gift of perspective to all he encounters. Learn more about our story and foundation in this interview!
Every child deserves the opportunity to experience something as basic as walking. For kids like Karter, the Trexo Robotics technology helps their bodies walk the way they are supposed to! Besides the experience of walking, we (and other parents) have noted improvements including: better head control, improved trunk control, neuromuscular health, and for Karter, more energy! For us, the experience is invaluable. We can't put a pricetag on it. In reality, there is a hefty one- $1000/month+. Insurance doesn't cover this, and the cost of living for medically complex families is extreme. Please help us raise funds to gift the experience of walking to another child! Visit our website (kourageouskarter.org) to learn more!
We understand that there are very good reasons you can't join us in-person! We also want to open this event to anyone across the country! If you participate virtually you can complete the 5k or 1 mile walk/run on your own time the week of the event. We'd love it if you'd share and tag on social media! Or email us! You will also have the option to add your results on our race roster site! It's just for fun, and to show your support!
