My Story…
Whatever the reason someone may experience homelessness, I never want their journey to start at a place of shame for who they are. My whole career and life goal is to make sure that kids, at the beginning stages of their lives, own who they are with a sense of pride, love and courage. To stand up against all odds and decide that it's awesome to be different - it is amazing to be themselves. If that ownership in who they are can change the outlook they have on a decision they may have to make in the future, then I will be forever grateful.
Those who face homelessness, may often feel a loss of hope within their lives. They may find it hard to access essential resources, including education, employment and inclusion within the community. Everyone needs to feel a sense of belonging somewhere, and support from others based on love and acceptance. The money raised through my Fight to End journey will go towards Joan's Place, a Youth Wellness Hub designed to create affordable housing for youth with a welcoming atmosphere and low-barrier space for them to participate in programs and services that can help benefit their journey and help them keep their lives on track.
Let's be the change, let's make a difference, and let's build hope for the future of our youth.
