My Story…
Join me for JCYC’s 13th Annual SF Aloha Run on Sunday, September 24th at Crissy Field in San Francisco!
This year's SF Aloha Run For Hope is focused on the future and young people who will one day be our community leaders. Proceeds from the 2023 SF Aloha Run for Hope will support JCYC’s scholarship programs which supports young people in pursuing higher education. This year, the organization is excited to announce that funds raised from the run will be used to launch the inaugural Julie Matsueda Believe Scholarship in addition to supporting the Excellence, Pathways and Thomatra Scott scholarship programs.
Alex, why do you choose to work at JCYC?
I know that it is cliche but in a lot of ways JCYC chose me! I was working in a very challenging environment right out of college, and with little experience and not a lot of contacts I had a hard time finding a job that would take a chance on me. I knew a teacher that I admired greatly working at the new Chibi Chan site and I was desperate to find a preschool because I loved working in education but could not hack it in elementary school. When they did offer me a position, I showed my mom the benefits package and she was so proud that I had a job that was so committed to its employees. Then I got to go to our all agency retreat where a lecturer spoke about calling people in and promoting social justice and I felt I found a good home for my passions and my skills.
