Race Procedures
2023 Flat Five Race Plan
The Saint Charles Runners Club (SCRC) plans to return to a pre-coronavirus race plan for the 2023 Flat Five. A contingency plan is in place to hold a virtual race in case our partners decide that it is unsafe to host a physical race. The SCRC may modify the race plan to implement best practices and to keep everyone safe during our event in 2023. The SCRC works with all of our partners to ensure a safe race. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Race Director, Chris Heupel, at 314-540-7283 or at chris.heupel@gmail.com or the Assistant Race Director, Manoj Sood, at 314-495-8531 or at manojcsood@hotmail.com
The 2023 Flat Five will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2023. It will be a physical race starting and finishing in Frontier Park in downtown St. Charles.
Course & Start/Finish Area
This year's course will be an out and back on the Katy Trail to minimize the impact on St. Charles City streets. Racers will head north from the start/finish on the Katy Trail. Course marshalls will be at all road crossings, at the water stop and at the turn around. A lead and trailing bike will be used to make sure that all participants have safely finished the race.
Start Times
The 5 Mile race will start at 7:00am. The 1 Mile will start at approximately 8:45am and the Toddler Trot will start at 9:00am.
Results
Start 2 Finish St. Louis will be providing live race results on-site via text messaging and staffed kiosks with printouts. A Start 2 Finish staffer will enter your bib and you can pick up your results printout, to eliminate any contact. Awards will be available onsite this year, with an awards ceremony around 8:30am. For those who can't stay for the awards ceremony, awards will be available for pickup at Fleet Feet St. Charles beginning Wednesday, August 9th.
Registration & Packet Pickup
Participants are highly encouraged to pick their packets up at Fleet Feet St. Charles on August 5th. Details and hours below. There will be race day pickup as well as race day registration available on race morning beginning at 6:30am.
Water Stations
Bringing your own water is highly encouraged. August can be quite hot, so there will be 2 water stations on the Katy Trail, one just north of DuSable Park and another south of DuSable Park. We'll have volunteers passing out cups of water at both aid stations.
Post-Race Food
Post-Race food will be provided at the Frontier Park Bandstand.
Contingency Plan
The Saint Charles Runners Club's goal is to run a physical race, however, if we are advised by our partners, City of St. Charles and/or the Missouri Department of Natural Resources that we are unable to hold a physical race on August 6th, 2023, the race will become a virtual event for all participants. Swag will be mailed to all participants and the entire event will be scored virtually, with instructions sent to all participants the week of the race.
Swag
5 Mile registrants will receive a Soft Style short sleeve shirt. 1 Mile participants can purchase a shirt for an additional $10. Swag is only guaranteed for those who register before 7/20.
Awards
5 Mile Awards will be given to the top 3 male and female overall finishers, as well as the top 3 male and female finishers in the following age groups:
19 & Under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 & Over
Packet Pickup
All participants are highly encouraged to pick their packets up prior to race morning.
Packet pickup is available at Fleet Feet St. Charles on the following days and times:
Saturday, August 5th - 10am-4pm
Sunday, August 6th - 6am-7am @ Frontier Park
