Welcome to the Midsummer 8k, a fantastic, flat, fast course in beautiful Kelowna, BC! Hit the streets of our beautiful city as you follow a winding out-and-back course along the shore of Lake Okanagan. The route has no major intersections and mostly follows a dedicated bike path so this is the perfect opportunity to get out there and test your limits!
The Midsummer 8K Race has been a stalwart of the Kelowna Running Club and Interior Running Association road race series, in varying forms and over various courses, for over 30 years. This year the race takes place on Sunday July 16th and we'll be celebrating not only the race, but 40 years of the Interior Running Association!

Price: $35 (Early bird price of $30 available for first 50 registrants!)

Kid's race organized by UBCO Cross Country Team Volunteers after the 8k- Sign up at their tent on race day.
- Cash prizes for the top three male and female finishers ($100, $50 and $30).
- Prizes for top 3 male and female in each age group.
- A boat-load of draw prizes from our fantastic sponsors.
- Snacks and water provided after the race.
- This will be the penultimate race of the 2023 IRA Road Race Series
This year, we will again be running for a local cause. Part of the race proceeds will go to help fund the UBCO Track team. The team is coached by Canadian Olympian Malindi Elmore and is continuing to go from strength to strength with the help of local support. This fall they will be hosting the Canada West Championships and in 2024 they have been selected to host the Nationals! In additon to our funding through the race proceeds, you may also make an extra donation to this cause with an option during your race registration.
In an effort to go more green, we would encourage all our racers to bring their own cup or water bottle to cut down on the amount of waste. Disposable cups and bottles will be provided otherwise but we encourage people to use them sparingly!
Course Description / Map (to be confirmed):
The route begins at Gyro Beach (3400 Lakeshore) and takes you along several small connecting roads until you reach Abbott Street. From here, its a straight shot along the shore of the lake past our aid station at Strathcona Beach Park until a turn on Lake Avenue leads to a little bridge and then transitions onto the pedestrian footpath of City Park. After several hundred metres you reach the turnaround point and then retrace your steps back to the start.

This is the general race entry for the 8k. Entrants must be 14 years or older on 31st Dec 2023. Please contact the race directors if you are younger than this and would like to race.
