Event FAQ's for Runners
Thank you for registering for the 14th Annual Pink Pumpkin Run: Pink on Parade! We are looking forward to a great day for breast cancer awareness and prevention in Marshall County! For the official schedule of events, please visit www.pinkpumpkinrun.com.
Registration and Packet Pick-ups will be held on the following days:
- Thursday, October 19 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at Main Channel Brewing's Pink Pint Night in Guntersville
- Friday, October 20 from 3:00 - 6:00 pm at the Guntersville Rec Center Multi-Purpose Room
- Saturday, October 21 from 7:15 - 8:45 am at the Guntersville Civitan Park
A few other reminders for the event:
WEATHER: We are thankful for a beautiful forecast of sunshine and highs in the mid 70's for Saturday's event! As always, we encourage you to keep an eye on the weather and plan accordingly in terms of clothing and hydration. In the unlikely event of severe weather, the run will NOT be rescheduled. Look for any cancellation notices to be communicated via email and on social media Saturday morning by 6:00 AM. If you don't hear from us again by then, the race is on!
PARKING: Please plan to arrive early and park at the Church of the Epiphany or the ballparks on Sunset Drive in Guntersville. The Guntersville Middle School parking lot will also be open, but please leave the spaces closest to the gym open. The Civitan Park parking lot will be CLOSED to ensure the safety of the crowd. If you need special parking accommodations, please email info@foundationformmc.org
10K: The 10K will start at 9:00 am sharp from the Guntersville Rec Center. If you are running in the 10K and have not picked up your packet by Race Day, you must do so at the Civitan Park. Please be aware there is a 1 hour and 45 minute time limit on the 10K.
5K: The 5K will start at 9:15 am from the Civitan Park. Please be alert and ready to line up as soon as the 10k runners pass by. To provide the best and safest experience possible for everyone, we will be very strict about getting our competitive runners lined up ahead of children and walkers. Also, we ask all walkers to stay to the left during the entire course so the competitive runners may pass you on the right.
RUNNERS ONLY LANE: To best accommodate our runners and keep everyone safe, a RUNNERS ONLY lane will be coned off approximately 100 yards from the final right turn from Wallace onto Sunset Drive. It will be marked with signage to indicate when it begins. If you are walking, please stay left and allow our runners access to the lane.
TIMING: The 5K and the 10K are both chip timed from Start2Finish Event Management with immediate results provided to you via email and on this webpage after the event. For this reason, it is very important that you not switch bibs with other runners or change your mind about the event you are running at the last minute which would impact the results for everyone running on Saturday.
If you need to update any information such as your age or the event in which you are running (for example, you need to switch from the 10K to the 5K) please email info@foundationformmc.org ASAP! Please DO NOT CALL as your message may not be received before the event.
FUN RUN: The Fun Run is a 1 mile run/walk from the 5K start line, to Wallace Drive and back through the Finish Line chute. It will begin at 10:15 am from the Civitan Park and will not be timed. You are welcome to run the Fun Run if you have already finished the 5K or 10K.
AWARDS: The Awards Ceremony will begin at approximately 11:15 am in the amphitheater.
PANCAKES AND ACTIVITIES: We are thrilled to again host the Pink Pancake Brunch, which is free to registered runners and open to others for a donation of any amount. The brunch will begin serving at 9:00 am. Children's activities such as face paiting and bounce houses will also be available from 8:30 - 11:30 am.
PHOTOS: There will be ample opportunities for individual and team photos again this year! There will also be professional race photographers from True Speed Photo on site and free downloads of all images after the event. Other candid photos from the day can be found on our Facebook page in the days following the event!
Don't forget to use #pinkpumpkinrun to share all your photos and memories from the event!
Why We Run
The proceeds from the Pink Pumpkin events will be donated to cancer care service programs at Marshall Medical Centers. The main beneficiary of the Pink Pumpkin proceeds will be the Mammography Assistance Program (MAP) at Marshall Medical Centers North and South. Through the funds provided from MAP, women who cannot afford a yearly mammogram are offered assistance. Often the concern over the loss of income because of the time away from work or the lack of transportation or gas money prevent women from having this potentially life-saving test performed on an annual basis. Through MAP we have the ability to overcome these obstacles for many women. We also run in honor and memory of loved ones who have fought the battle with cancer.
Course Descriptions
5K Course (USATF certified - AL22040JE): The 5K walk/run will begin at Guntersville's Civitan Park, travel northeast along Sunset Drive/LB Wallace Drive and return to the Civitan Park by way of newly renovated downtown Guntersville. The course is mostly flat with a couple of slight inclines and runs adjacent to beautiful Lake Guntersville. Aid stations will be located at the halfway point.
10K Course (USATF CERTIFIED - AL23033JE): The 10K course will start at the Guntersville Rec Center and travel northeast along Sunset Drive/LB Wallace Drive and return to the Civitan Park by way of Gunter and Blount Avenues. A water and aid station will be located at the Chamber of Commerce, Bancorp South and at the finish line. All 10K runners will need to pick up their bib numbers at the Civitan Park prior to the race.
