Why do we Step4Water?
Good Neighbors Canada is working to fundraise enough to build 6 wells in rural villages in Zambia in 2023. Without these wells, families (usually children) need to walk up to 4 hours a day in search of their closest water source, which is often contaminated and can make them very unwell. We are aiming for a total of $27,000 this year to help us build safe, accessible sources of drinking water to change hundreds of lives. Join us and #Step4Water so kids don't have to.
About our Virtual Step4Water challenge...
Which distance should I choose?
We have included the two options of 5K and 10K to cater for different ability levels and types of movement. Pick the one which feels like a challenge to you, and commit to making this happen.
How do I complete my challenge?
The virtual event is running for five weeks: Saturday August 26th - Saturday September 30th 2023. It is up to you on when you complete your challenge during that time - or how many challenges you complete!
The location and format is completely up to you! For example, walking on a treadmill or taking a run outside is all acceptable.
How many are allowed on a team registration?
As many as you like! Those who register into a team will receive a discount of $10 per person, so do bring your friends along for the challenge.
What can I get involved with throughout the challenge event?
For the entire five weeks, participants will be invited to engage with one another and share updates on our virtual Kudoboard, a website for sharing thoughts, photos, videos and links. Each week we will hold a new competition, for which the winners will receive special prizes ranging from items from our Goods4Causes store to complimentary fitness classes!
We will also be having a livestreamed Q&A with our partners at Good Neighbors Zambia, who will be delivering the water wells we are fundraising for. Join us on Friday, September 22nd at 10am EDT to meet the Zambian team and ask them anything you’d like to know about the fundraising cause (all participants will receive a Zoom invitation).
What comes included with my registration?
All participants will receive: entry to complete the Step4Water challenge, a finisher medal, an official race t-shirt, a waterproof wristband, and 10% discount on Goods4Causes orders. Most importantly, your name will be added to the sign outside one of the wells we build in rural Zambia this year. (If you’d like to opt out of this, you can let us know by emailing hello@gncanada.ca).
