The Oise-san Marathon (or the Ise Half Marathon) is an unique experience that takes you around the sacred Ise Jingu Naiku (Inner Shrine) and old landscapes from the Edo Period. Known for its seafood, Matsuzaka beef, akafuku snacks, and Mikimoto pearls, Mie prefecture is a hidden gem located less than three hours from Tokyo. Come to Ise, home to one of Japan’s most revered Shinto shrines (Ise Jingu) and learn about the deeply spiritual roots of both the region and the nation. Eat, race, and explore – it’s the perfect weekend getaway!
Highlights
・From the gently rolling curves of the highway to the 800-meter run through Oharai-machi, enjoy a course almost completely closed to traffic.
・While not a flat and fast course to bang out a PR, the Ise Half has just enough runners for the “big race vibe” without the “big race anxiety”. With about 5,500 half marathon participants, it’s the right number of people to provide for a competitive course without frustrating congestion.
・Before and after the race, enjoy the traditional shops and restaurants, as well as popular seafood and mountain vegetables dishes! This year’s special guest is Mizuki Noguchi, a gold medalist in the 2004 Athens Olympics. Feel the energy and support from the city of Ise!
・Finisher entitlements include beach towel, akafuku red bean mochi snacks, and a sports drink.
