Tunnel Vision Duathlon

Cañon City's Bike/Run Trail Event

Tunnel Vision is the first event of its kind in the Royal Gorge Region - a duathlon that pairs mountain biking with hiking/trail running. This event will feature a neutral start by bike, followed by a hike / trail run up one of the community’s newest trails, and a bike ride back to the finish line. This event is designed to be fun and challenging for a WIDE variety of ages and experience levels. Choose your distance and enjoy a mild bike ride (with one hill), plus a short, medium, or long run / hike up one of Cañon City's most exciting trails - Royal Cascade. You'll love the views from any distance!

COURSE

Featuring a start at Centennial Park - the “hub” of outdoor recreation in the community - the out-and-back course will then leave the park via the Riverwalk to the Tunnel Drive Trailhead. Participants will traverse this portion via bike (sorry, e-bikes not allowed). At the trailhead for Royal Cascade, they will park their bikes (attended by volunteers) and begin a climb (hike or run) up Royal Cascade. Those in the Beginner race will ascend about .25 miles up to the turnaround. Intermediate participants will climb about halfway - 1.5 miles - to a turnaround, and Advanced participants will attempt a summit of Fremont Peak. (This is set to include a new trail that should be completed by the event date. Barring this completion, the turnaround will be at the terminus of Royal Cascade.) All appropriate course marking, safety precautions, volunteer staffing, and prior notification will be made. In the case of adverse weather, a ‘virtual’ option will be made available and post-race celebration will take place on Saturday, November 4, 2023.

This event is designed to be welcoming to a wide variety of participants - both novice and advanced. It is FAR’s mission to encourage outdoor recreation in our community, and we feel that this event will encourage a greater number of individuals from our region to participate.
