Gamers Read .5k (500 m) Walk/Run/Sprint aims to bring the gaming, cosplay, anime, and running communities and their families together to advocate for literacy, especially among youth in grades K-5. This event also celebrates National Video Games Day. Literacy is a critical skill for success in society, and eSports careers such as game design & development, comic book creation, shoutcasting/streaming, and eSports journalism all require well-developed literacy skills. Gamers Read .5k (500m) Walk/Run/Sprint is sponsored by PCX GO!, a 501(c)(3) whose mission is to prepare K-16 youth for eSports careers through informing, instructing, and educating youth around eSports career pathways.
Participants can complete virtually from now through the end of the year (September 9, 2023 - December 31, 2023).
Dress up as your favorite Comic Book or Video Game Character!
Partial proceeds benefit the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) hospitals (Egleston, Scottish Rite, and Hughes Spalding) to provide gaming equipment and training for eSports careers for the youth whom CHOA serves and to provide scholarships for K-12 students to attend Camp LVL Up, our virtual eSports summer experience.
