My Story…
Hello friends and family!
I am fundraising again to support the youth programs I have been part of for the last six years. I keep supporting these programs because of the community and friendships that are built through them. Over these six years I have seen the huge difference that a supportive community makes for children and youth who are newcomers to Canada, or who are from families living with financial or other challenges.
The funds we raise through Move4Hope give us the ability and flexibility to continue to offer youth programs that provide spaces to connect and belong. Two examples of this are:
Connect: A Thursday-night program for all youth ages 13-18. Connect is our biggest program (90+participants). Connect acts as the space where new connections are made between youth, volunteers, staff and peers. Together we undertake activities that expose youth to new people, places and opportunities in the KW region. Most of the A4C youth get to know us through Connect, before joining other programs.
Young Queens Collective: Young Queens is a program for women and girls of color. Run by an outstanding group of volunteers and former A4C youth, Young Queens provides a safe and affirming space for girls of color to form friendships, connect with mentors, relax and enjoy themselves. Recognizing that younger girls of color also need this space and community, YQ leadership created an additional program this year to be able to include grade-school aged girls.
Genesis: A youth employment program where A4C connects youth with employers in the KW region to offer critical ‘first job’ positions, while tracking alongside them to ensure workplace success. This program is in high demand!
