15 WEEKS TO ULTRA TRAIL AUSTRALIA!
This is the perfect training run for those wanting to get some stair training in on the UTA11, UTA22, UTA50 and UTA100 courses, get familiar with the area or just cruise along on a guided run in the Blue Mountains. It is also the day before the Running Wild Wentworth Falls Trail Race so you can make a weekend of it trail running in the awesome Blue Mountains.
The experienced trainers from BLUE MOUNTAINS FITNESS have teamed up again with THE BODY MECHANIC. We align our BMF UTA Training Runs with THE LOCKER ROOM UTA Base Training Plans (Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced) and the Event Specific UTA11, UTA22, UTA50 and UTA100 Race Training Plans.

As you may have heard, the UTA11 course has been massively affected by another landslide near 'The Landslide'. If we hear from UTA course changes we will do the new UTA11 course. If we don't we will do a training session on the stairs and singletrack. We'll add parts of the other UTA courses to get the extra KM up to 22km. The training course route may change due to further National Parks/Council closures, landslides, floods or any unforeseen circumstances. We will update details as soon as possible.
BLUE MOUNTAINS FITNESS is one of only a few companies with a National Parks and Wildlife ECO PASS licence to carry out run training on the Ultra Trail Australia course. We have been training runners for 13 years to complete the arduous UTA course since 2011. We have highly experienced trainers who know the trails better than most.
We are NPWS ECO PASS licensed and insured to carry out this training within the National Park.
WHY? This is a great training run to get a look at the UTA courses and terrain or see where you are at with your training. The Run trainers at BMF have a wealth of experience to pass on - race prep, race gear, training and race nutrition, race strategy. pacing and info on the course.
We do not leave runners and walkers behind. We have plenty of options with the different pace groups and distances. Our Run Trainers are highly experienced and will see who is doing it easy and also those who are finding it not so easy!
THE COURSE. This was the original plan (!) - Start and Finish at Scenic World. Run up Cliff Drive and out onto Narrow for a quick out and back which includes a few sneaky hills, including the 'concrete hill'! Descend the tricky Golden Stairs and then the technical terrain of 'The Landslide' before the fun part - Furber Stairs! Extra KM will be on Narrow Neck and a trip down to Leura Forest and Dardanelles Pass. We will modify the training plan to run on only open National Parks trails.
PACE GROUPS. We'll have 2 Pace Groups - The mighty TURTLES and the HARES.
We may even have a Walker Group and a Walk Trainer if required.
GEAR. We will be using this as a race day prep run and ask you to bring the UTA11 Mandatory gear.
START TIME. Turtles pace group will start first at 8am.
Hares will also start at 8am but do a little bit extra giving the Turtles a head start.
START/FINISH LOCATIONS. Scenic World Car Park
DISTANCE. 11-22km.
FINISH TIME. We expect to be finish in 2 to 3.5 hours.
The Hares will chase the Turtles group. When the two groups meet runners can choose what group they are in and finish the run. There will also be a chance to swap groups during the run.You will not be left behind! Our guides are very experienced and will keep the groups together but still push the fitter, faster runners if needed.
NUTRITION. Please bring enough fuel and hydration for this amount of time.
MINIMUM AGE. We have a minimum age of 11 on this particular training run. If your child has been running a while and is under 11 please email us to discuss whether it would be a suitable run to take them on. The minimum age for the UTA11 race is 12 years old in May 2023.
OTHER INFORMATION. Our Trainers are very experienced trainers with a huge knowledge of the area, ,the UTA courses and what is needed to get the best result for you on Race Day.
