What Is Run NZ Run?
Run NZ Run is a range of virtual runs and walks held throughout the year. Many of our events take place on specific days, while others run over a set period of time or distance.
Our aim is simple — to have as many people as possible throughout New Zealand out running and walking for the benefit of their health.
Specific Runs
Wellington 5km Challenge - 20th - 31st March 2026
We will have more specific Run NZ Run events coming up in 2026, including a new City 5km Challenge series starting in March.
These monthly city challenges help keep you motivated on your way to the big goal of Run NZ, with new events every 3–4 weeks.

Ongoing Events
We have ongoing events to keep you motivated, including Run the South, Run the North and Run NZ. There is no time limit — take as long as you want.
The goal is to run or walk the length of New Zealand:
South Island – 920km (South Island Medal)
North Island – 1062km (North Island Medal)
Both Islands – 1982km (New Zealand Medal)
Entry Information
Entry to all Run NZ Run virtual events is FREE unless part of a specific fundraiser.
You may choose to purchase a medal, a t-shirt, or both as an optional combo.

Looking for something more structured?
If you're aged 55+ and looking for a more structured approach to strength, balance, and regular movement, you may be interested in Stronger for Life.
Stronger for Life is part of Run NZ Run and combines simple Strength & Balance exercises with a monthly walk or run goal, helping you stay steady, confident, and independent as you age.
It is proudly Approved by ACC’s Live Stronger for Longer programme.

Recording Your Results
You must register for each run and complete it within the specified period (if applicable). Once completed, submit your results and we will publish them so you can see how you compare with other runners and walkers.
Entries to some runs may be limited, so don’t delay.

Once you have completed the distance, scroll down for your certificate and ranking. After results are submitted, we will forward your medal and/or t-shirt.

Marathon Medals:
You can Run or Walk the events, this is solely up to you. Fantastic medals and t-shirts for all runs.
Plus; you can donate to the New Zealand Heart Foundation when you enter any of our events. The Heart Foundation NZ is our chosen Charity for Run NZ Run and all donations go direct to the foundation.
