Help in the Fight Against ALS

Dear Family and Friends

Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.

As many of you know, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, took the life of my father-in-law, Tim Hamilton, on February 11th, 2018. Currently, a close family friend of ours is bravely fighting ALS, and we have met many others who have battled or are currently battling this devastating disease.

ALS is a relentless and hard-fought battle to the bitter end. Our family knows firsthand the profound impact of every dollar raised in support of this fight, for both the patients and supporting organizations. Often health insurance comes nowhere near covering the medical bills these patients face. Despite wonderful fundraisers like the “Ice Bucket Challenge,” organizations like the Penn Comprehensive ALS Center still require much more financial support to accomplish their mission.

I signed up for the Triple Bypass to raise money in support of the fight against ALS. I have never cycled 118 miles nor have a climbed 10,800 vertical feet in a single ride. However, on July 13th, 2024 I intend to do that in memory of Tim and many others who have lost their lives to ALS. Every mile will be a great reminder of how incredibly lucky I am for my health and fitness, and for your support.

Tim was a powerful and positive force in our lives. Tim was a college athlete; and continued to be athletic and healthy by any measure throughout his life. We could not believe that someone as strong and able as him could be taken from this world so young. We desperately prayed for a cure or a miracle reversal of the disease. Unfortunately, there was no cure, and six years later, a cure has yet to be found despite the incredible work of medical professionals across the country

We helped in Tim’s care, and discovered for ourselves all of the challenges ALS patients face (as well as others affected by similar neurological ailments). Along with a terminal prognosis, ALS patients are confronted with unfathomable mental and physical pain which is only to be exacerbated by enormous medical bills. We learned that most cities are poorly designed for the disabled, and even state-of-the-art medical devices and wheelchairs had significant limitations in combatting the symptoms of ALS.

We have also come to learn that existing evidence suggests veterans are at greater risk of being diagnosed with ALS and dying from the disease than those with no history of military service. A Harvard study concluded that all military veterans, regardless of branch or era of service are nearly twice as likely to develop ALS

Please join our family in supporting the Penn Comprehensive ALS Clinic in treating, preventing, and seeking out a cure for ALS. I have personally met and spoken with several members of their team, all of whom are incredible humans who have dedicated their time to combat ALS. In speaking with them, I can attest to their vital need for greater funding to support their fight against ALS.

Please join me in donating to their clinic. No matter how small the contribution, every dollar counts. I will be forever grateful for your support, and if you share your email along with your donation, I will provide an update on both the donation as well as my pursuit to conquer the legendary Triple Bypass ride from Evergreen to Avon, Colorado.

Together, we can make a difference and bring hope to those affected by ALS.

With heartfelt thanks,

Ayman
