The Great Ski Race®
3rd annual 26km Tahoe City loop, March 3, 2024
For the first time in 45+ years, we've made the unfortunate decision to cancel the 2024 The Great Ski Race - due to it being too stormy and very dangerous driving conditions.
Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue is a tough group of individuals, but prudence demands that we not put any racers or volunteers into harm's way by encouraging anyone to be driving on the roads race day while the National Weather Service Blizzard Warning is still in effect.
All 2024 registrants will automatically be rolled over for 2025 - thanks for your understanding!
Are you interested in a fun and challenging day on snow? With great vistas of north Lake Tahoe, you will cross country ski a 26km course around Mt. Watson that starts and ends at the Tahoe Cross Country Center, to be followed by a finish line party celebration with food and live music. This course has lots of varied terrain, not to mention the usual challenges our skiers sign up for (one of them being the notoriously wildcard race-day weather).
Registration fees will increase up to race day, so register early!
- $65 ($20 if under 18) until Jan 3
- $75 ($30 if under 18) until Feb 3
- $85 ($40 if under 18) until Feb 29
- $90 ($50 if under 18) on March 1 and 2
- $120 ($70 if under 18) on race day

The Great Ski Race® is the main fund raising event for the Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue Team, a non-profit all-volunteer organization. Team members, along with community supporters, organize The Great Ski Race®, which continues to be one of the largest Nordic ski races west of the Mississippi. Race proceeds are used primarily to purchase equipment for the Team, and to support winter survival and avalanche education programs sponsored and conducted by the Team.
Please note that this is a fundraiser for the non-profit TNSAR, and so refunds are not possible and rollovers are only allowed when the entire race is cancelled, and only good for the following year.

Schedule of Events
Wave 1 starts at 9:00 am with subsequent waves starting 3 minutes apart (Wave 2 starts 9:03, Wave 3 starts 9:06, etc). Your bib number corresponds to your assigned start wave. There will be signs and race officials to direct you into the correct wave start corral. Any racer starting in the wrong wave will be disqualified. Race finish times are adjusted for each wave. All racers must be in their assigned wave start corral before 9:00 am.
Awards start at 12:30, and are provided for overall times (men and women), as well as per age groups (9 and under, 10-11, 12-13,14-15,16-17,18-19, 20-29 and up by tens).
Live music will play from 11:30-3:00!
Packet Pickup
Due to the weather, you can pick up your pre-race package on Thursday (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM) before the race, and Sunday (race day) up until 8:30 AM, at the Tahoe Cross Country ski area.
