My why
Hello! Thank you for taking a few minutes to check out my fundraising page. Some of you know, and some might not, that I have done a few big fundraising runs in the past, but none have meant as much to me as this one. STAND A.S.A. has connected me with the community I was missing, and has provided me with an incredible variety of healing resources that have changed my life and helped me face the trauma I had buried down and tucked away, which was causing a lot of stress and anxiety in my life.
STAND prides themselves on being run by survivors, for survivors. They are ineligible for government funding because they've stayed committed to not having a lengthy intake process and will help anyone who reaches out, ASAP. This is so important as it can be so difficult to pick up the phone and ask for help regarding experiences of sexual assault - I know this from experience. The government-funded program I participated in required an intake interview process and a 7-month wait, which also shows how many people out there are asking for help because of sexual assault.
SO, to help STAND be able to continue offering the wonderful programs they provide, I am going to get my running shoes cleaned up from my new-found love of trail racing, and get back on the road to participate in the Calgary Half Marathon this May to raise awareness (and hopefully some funding) for this incredible organization.
From STAND A.S.A.'s website:
Sexual assault is far too common. 43% of Albertans have experienced sexual violence.
Most victims suffer in silence. These are our mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, sons, and daughters. These are our friends and our neighbours. These are people we love.
By showing support, you're not only helping me, but you're likely helping someone else you know who hasn't yet shared their experience with sexual harassment or assault. Please, give what you can, share this fundraising page and/or join the team and let's get running!
Description
Join me in making a difference! I'm running to show survivors that they are seen, believed, and not alone. By supporting my run, you contribute to STAND ASA's mission in ending victim blaming and shaming. Together, let's inspire change and put an end to sexual violence
