My Story…
I've never met Sloane in person, but I know she is the strongest little girl I have ever heard of. Sloane is the niece of a friend of mine back in Calgary. Exactly one year ago, this brave little girl was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma - CANCER. Despite the challenges she’s faced, Sloane's spirit, resilience, energy and infectious laughter have inspired us to take action. In honor of Sloane and countless other children fighting similar battles, Sloane’s mom has created a run team with a goal of raising funds for childhood cancer research, which I have joined. I’ve never had Cancer hit quite so close to home for me, and watching the treatment that Sloan has had to go through has been absolutely devastating. She most recently had to travel to the US to receive proton radiation therapy for a month; a treatment that has been around for many years, but is currently not available in Canada.
Did you know that only seven per cent of all cancer research funding in Canada goes toward pediatric cancers? Yet it’s the number one cause of death by disease in kids. We can do better for them and for our collective future.
On May 26, 2024, I will be participating in the annual Calgary marathon virtually from over here in the Netherlands. This will not just be as a physical challenge for me but as a symbol of hope, strength, and solidarity for children like Sloane.
Your contribution can make a meaningful impact on the lives of children battling cancer through the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation's contribution to the new Centre for Immunotherapy. Every dollar brings us one step closer to advancements in treatment, research breakthroughs, and ultimately, a cure. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that children like Sloane can grow up to live long, healthy, happy lives.
Here's how you can get involved:
Make a Donation: Your financial support, no matter the amount, will contribute to vital, much-needed research that can save lives.
Share Her Story: Spread the word by sharing this email or our fundraising page with your friends, family, and colleagues. The more people who know about Sloane's story, the greater impact we can make. Or follow Sloane’s mom on Instagram where she’s advocating for childhood cancer: @therealclairem
Join Us: If you're feeling particularly energetic, consider joining team Strong Like Sloane, and run Virtually with me over here!
Let's come together to get loud, make noise and spread awareness. By doing so, we’ll all make a difference in the fight against childhood cancer. Every donation, every share, and every step (no pun intended) we take brings us closer to a world where no child has to endure the pain of this devastating disease.
Thank you for considering this cause and for being a beacon of hope for children like Sloane.
Together, we can create a brighter and healthier future.
