My Story…
I am running for my first time, on behalf of my Grandpa Paul and Auntie Randel, who each fought their own courageous battle with cancer. Maybe one day I will be able to run a marathon for you, but this year 10 km will have to do!! I love you both and miss you so much. May future research give us the answers we wished we had then.
The Cancer Research Society is a national not-for-profit organization whose sole mission is to fund research on all types of cancer to help prevent, detect, and treat this disease.
Cancer remains the leading cause of death in Canada affecting 2 in 5 Canadians and, despite progress made through research for many types of cancer, one in four cancer patients will not survive their diagnosis.
One thing is clear: Advances through prevention, detection and treatments begin with research. Overall, research has led to remarkable progress. Survival rates for some cancers now exceed 70%, 80% and even 90%.
Since 1945, the Cancer Research Society has invested $388 millions in research across Canada. In 2023 alone, 124 research projects were funded to support of cancer research and better care.
