My Story…
In the last 3 years of working for Urban Impact, I have seen young men learn who God has created them to be, and how their lives should look different from whatever the world tells them. I've seen students that previously could barely make it through a basketball night suddenly start setting the example in how to create a loving atmosphere as they realize that their actions and choices matter.
I've seen miraculous healings, some from the prayers of those that weren't quite sure whether God wanted to even use them in His Kingdom in the first place.
I've seen hundreds of students from across the nation give up weeks of their time to come to the North Side and pour out generously into our community through their prayer, service, and resources, while learning themselves how God wants to impact their home communities.
I've seen one boy change from being the angry kid in our programs into a young man who volunteers his time as a high school student to invest in the lives of students who were just like him.
I've witnessed hundreds of people respond to the Gospel.
While I'm very grateful for the Kingdom moments where God has chosen to use me... As I reflect on these past years, I am more so blown away by the longevity of not only those who have come before me, but the faithfulness of the Lord to a city that He loves.
I hope to one day be able to have that same sort of longevity and faithfulness towards a community that only comes with time. That is why this year, I have committed to running with the kind of longevity I never really thought was possible for me.
I will be running the Pittsburgh Marathon this year with my wife, raising money for Urban Impact. By running this race, I hope more people will be exposed to the work that they have been doing for the past 30 years, and support the continued work that is before us. As I have learned from our training runs, longevity and endurance is not easy and it takes time... But when we remain faithful to what the Lord calls us to, we get to see glimpses of his love for people, even in the first few years of faithfulness.
