Help Melis raise money

I've been intrigued by the idea of the Point to La Pointe swim for a few  years. The swim crosses the deep, cool, sweet waters of Lake Superior between Bayfield and Madeline Island. The distance is 2.1 miles for those who manage to swim it in a straight line, which is rarely easy due to currents, wind, waves. 

The Point to La Pointe swim is a major fundraiser for the Bayfield Rec Center. As a participant I've pledged to raise a minimum of $600, which is about the cost of a full-rate, one-year family membership. I'm happy to do it, and hope I'll raise more, as the Rec Center is such a vital community institution and like so many such institutions, it operates on the slimmest of margins. It is the only pool in the area; it's where hundreds of local children learn to swim every year; it's a place for swim teams, water polo, kayak pool play, morning lap swimming and daily open swim for kids and adults of all ages. 

I am actively grateful to be a confident swimmer, aware of both the power and dangers of open water, but also very comfortable in the liquid embrace. I've been  swimming as long as I can remember and can't imagine being afraid to jump in or to frolic safely in the waves. In supporting an institution like the Rec Center, I'm paying that gratitude forward and asking you to join me in that as well, with a donation to my Race Roster fundraising page.
