Will there be km markers?
Yes; there will be km markers at every 1km for the South Island Half Marathon, up to 20km.
Will toilets be around the Lake if needed?
Yes; there are permanent toilets situated at various spots around the course. You may have to run across to them, but there are toilets situated around the route as well as at the start.
Will there be a bag drop off that is secure?
Yes; we will have a bag drop off; this will be at Race HQ at the start/finish.
Is there a time limit for the run and walk of the Half Marathon?
Yes; both walkers and runners must have started the last lap by 12:10pm.
What if I haven't started the last lap by 12:10pm?
You will be asked to stop the event. Our intention is to have everyone finished within 4 hours of the South Island Half Marathon Walk and 3 hours 30 minutes for the South Island Half Marathon Run.
Is there are prize giving?
Yes, there will be a prizegiving. Prizes will be allocated in each category for first, second and third. To receive both Category and Spot Prizes you must be present at Prizegiving.
What time is prize giving?
We anticipate prize giving to be 10 minutes after the last competitor, estimated to be approximately 1:30pm although it could be earlier if everyone finishes quicker.
Is there food and coffee available?
Yes; The Lake House will be open before the event for coffees and snacks. Plus, it will be open for lunches and fast-food type meals for children and families.
What beverages are available after the event?
The Lake House is a fully licenced restaurant and can cater for all beverage requirements. Competitors will have R-Line Electrolytes and water available at the Finish.
Can I wear iPod and/or other types of technology to listen to music during the run?
Our recommendation for everyone health and safety are that you don’t as you can’t take instructions from marshals during the event. And you may not hear other runners coming up behind you.
Are there any age restrictions for the Half Marathon and 1/6 Marathon?
Yes; to do the South Island Half Marathon you must be 13 years of age on race day and the 1/6 Marathon you must be10 years of age on the day.
Can I get a refund if I withdraw prior to the event start?
No, sorry there are no refunds, but you can transfer your entry to another competitor. An administration fee of $25.00 applies or you can transfer to another one of CJM’S Events Limited’s many events, with a transfer fee of $25.00. This must be completed the Sunday before the event - seven days out. You will be issued with a code to enter the next year with your entry fee as the discount.
We do offer a Withdrawal Cover, which can be purchased at the time of entry. If you cannot participate for any reason, you get a full refund of your entry fee if you withdraw up to 96 hours before the event. No Merchandise is refunded under this cover.
If I transfer down from the Half Marathon to the 1/6 Marathon, does the price difference come off my transfer fee?
No, sorry it doesn’t as the administration work to allocate your number to the Marathon and timing system has already been done. You are then being removed from one event and then registered in the new event 1/6 Marathon.
Are there drink stations on the run?
Yes; drink stations will be set up approx. every 3.5km.
Should the event have to be cancelled due to force majeure, disease or pandemic there will be no refund of entry fee as all expenses have generally been spent in marketing, set up and administration.
Do finishers receive a medal?
Yes; every finisher will receive a Finishers Medal - Half Marathon and 1/6 Marathon.
Can prams be used in the event?
No sorry, the run is not suitable for prams as there is a lake overflow area and in places it is narrow and not suitable for runners trying to pass the prams. Please do not turn up with a pram and expect to do the event as you will not be able to take the pram.
Does it cost anything to go in the draw for the Mystery Time Draw and win $5,000?
No, it costs nothing extra. All Runners, Walkers and Hybrid participants are in the draw automatically to win the mystery time. The 7km participants are not in the draw only the half marathon participants. Refer T&C's of the Mystery Prize Draw.
