My Story…
For almost 36 years, I have counselled individuals and families of those who have experienced traumatic spinal cord injuries, as well as people with other physical disabilities as a Peer Support Specialist with SCI BC. Over the years I have also helped throughout Victoria and South Vancouver Island in all areas of community living to enhance the independence, self-reliance, and full community participation of people living with physical disabilities. I had a 20-year obsession with wheelchair sports. Since 1984 I participated in competitive Volleyball, Basketball, Athletics (javelin, shot-put, and discus), Weightlifting and Racquetball. In 1990 I took top spot in the National ‘B’ Division in Wheelchair Racquetball and retired from competitive sport in 1997 holding 3rd place in the National ‘A’ Division. I went on to be a full time Dad with my 4 children and served as a foster parent for over 12 years, fostering more than 40 children over that time.
