DION Flurry Trail and Snowshoe Race

This year we are pleased to announce that we will be offering a snowshoe race and, later in the day, a trail running race (without snowshoes).

We're super stoked to be joining, once again, the DION Ontario Snowshoe Running Series for 2024. We will be offering 4k (actually more like 3.75km) and 8k (actually more like 7.5km) distances and will be hosting our event at the beautiful Marydale Park in Mount Hope, ON. Later in the day, after the snowshoe participants have flattened a trail, we will also be hosting an 8 km (actually more like 7.5 km) trail running race without snowshoes (though, depending on the condition, we will probably recommend some type of additional traction such as micro spikes or Yaktrax).

Can't decide between the snowshoe race and the trail race? Register for The Flurry Fury and do both! You will receive 1 race kit but will get 2 race bibs and 2 finishing medals. We will combine your times and crown a M/F/NB Flurry Fury Champ.

Marydale Park will also be the charity we will be supporting.

This is a great event for not only experienced snowshoe enthusiasts but also for those who would like to give the sport a try for the first time. Most people are able to pick up snowshoe running/hiking very quickly. In fact, the Race Director also tried snowshoe running for the first time at one of the snowshoe races in this series. If he can do it, you can do it!

We have secured an indoor location to host race-kit pick-up as well as to do post race prizing as well as some draw prizes. We will be providing soup and hot beverages after the event so stick around, enjoy a hot drink, and maybe you will leave with a prize!

All participants will receive a custom race mug, which they can use after the race to fill with hot soup, which will be provided. Race finishers will also receive a pretty awesome finisher medal. Please note that the mug and medal pictured below are from our 2020 event and will be different for 2024.

Prizes will be awarded to the Top 3 Women/Men/Non-Binary for each of the events.

Race Course- The course will take place on a 4km loop (3.75km). 8km (7.5km) participants will complete the loop twice. Race distances are approximate and the exact distances and race routes will be announced closer to the race. This will depend on the trail conditions as we want to make sure that we offer our participants the best experience possible!

If, in the unlikely chance that there isn't enough snow for snowshoe racing, the race will happen as a trail race and snowshoes won't be necessary.

We have a limited number of Dion Snowshoes available for rent at checkout and we expect our rental pairs to go quickly. SNOWSHOE RENTALS ARE NOW SOLD OUT. We will do our best to announce when the snowshoes are all spoken for. If, when registering, you are able to reserve a pair, that means there are still snowshoes available. The rental cost is $10.00, which goes directly towards maintaining the fleet of snowshoes and making sure they are in tip-top shape.

DION ONTARIO SNOWSHOE RUNNING SERIES:
Each racers top three finishes will count towards the series with the lowest point total being declared the winner. The first place male and female winner of the Dion Ontario Snowshoe Running Series will each win a pair of top-of-the-line Dion running snowshoes at the conclusion of the series. We will also be randomly drawing for a free pair of Dion Snowshoes and additional prizes at each race in the Dion Ontario Snowshoe Running Series. You must be at awards ceremony to win!

Refund Policy:

Happy Trails Racing has a policy regarding race refunds/transfers: register with confidence knowing that you can take advantage of our early bird pricing and, if you need to back out, you can do so up to 30 days before the race with a 100% race credit that can go towards any future Happy Trails event. It doesn't expire. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate cancellations within 30 days of the race. However, participants are welcome to transfer their bib to someone else without any penalty up to 5 days before the race. Please keep in mind that everything we need to order to have you at our race is done so at least 30 days out.
