My Story…
I can’t wait to swim again this summer! I’ve joined SwimBowen not only to swim the 1500m on July 16th, but also to help out year round as volunteer social media coordinator. It’s been wonderful learning more about the Society and the financial support that the Cancer Care Fund provides directly to Bowen cancer patients. Living on an island has challenges and I love that folks here take care of each other.
Since overcoming my fear of swimming in deep, dark water after moving to Bowen in 2021, I now actually crave a good coastline swim. I live near several amazingly supportive open water swimmers and love the informal swims we do together a few times per week in the warm season. Summer can’t come soon enough!
I’ve raised thousands of dollars for cancer research over the years through direct fundraising, quilt raffles and personal donations of sales and teaching revenue from my Cutting Garden quilt pattern. Funds have gone to the BC Cancer Agency and Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto where my brother receives ongoing care for terminal medullary thyroid cancer. As I was last year, I’m thrilled to directly support cancer patients in my own community through SwimBowen.
Your donation of any amount is so appreciated. Thank you!😘
