My Story…
I am remembering down to my bones the inspiration for starting SwimBowen. It is perfect summer morning on Bowen Island; the robins are voicing their long, bugle-like call, the Dogwood trees are alight with bloom and the ocean is beckoning with its calm, blue surface.
I am cancer free and strong. I am loving today and looking forward to the future.
I am utterly grateful for all these little big things in my life.
SwimBowen was a wee idea all those years ago when I wasn't strong. And I wasn't sure about the future. But the idea of SwimBowen gave me strength. And hope. I thought maybe, just maybe we could make a small change in our corner of the world and help out our Bowen Island neighbours and friends who find themselves in the midst of cancer treatment.
And look what we’ve done. This granule of an idea has blossomed in the most spectacular way. Sold out registration, an amazing raft of sponsors and volunteers – and best of all: to date we have gifted $90K in Cancer Care Funds to those working hard to rise above this disease.
It is remarkable what we have all done. Together.
This year I am not the event director. I will be joining all my SwimBowen peeps in the ocean to reach, pull, exhale for all the right reasons. For our health. The health of our community, and for building hope for those who need it most.
