My Story…
This April my family's life was turned upside down when we learned my goofy, fun loving dad was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer. George (G-force!!) went to the hospital with jaundice where we learned he had stage 4 cholangiocarcinoma. I was always familiar with cancer in some ways, and ironically work with oncology patients daily as a physiotherapist working in oncology rehab. But seeing the impact of cancer first hand is a much different feeling. We were quickly overwhelmed with information, scans, procedures and he began his treatment plan. At the time of his diagnosis we were so grateful to be connected with the C3 Collective - a research group funded by the Canadian Cancer Society. The C3 Collective is focused on helping patients with cholangiocarcinoma find clinical trials to treat this rare disease. They helped up navigate questions around genetic testing, research and referred us to his incredible oncologist. Without funding from the Canadian Cancer Society, this collective would not be in place for families such as ours.
Gee is taking his chemo/immunotherapy like a champ and feeling better each day. We are hopeful that through funding research and patient advocacy groups we can make a real change. Too many of us have had to deal with this disease, and it would mean a lot for us (and my dad) for us to do our part to kick cancer's butt!! Help me run for a cure!
