My Story…
I am raising money for two causes: (i) CAMH; and (ii) the Cancer Research Society.
Regarding (i), in my 40s, I wrestled with my use of alcohol. It is ironic as I didn’t drink in highschool, nor did I drink much in University or in my 20s. Yet, I found myself in my 40s drinking as an outlet to deal with various stresses I was facing. In my efforts to address that, I changed careers - a very difficult decision as someone who, until that point, had been very focused on their career, generally and as an identity.
Since then, I have focused my efforts on CrossFit and running. I am happy to talk anyone into submission re the benefits of CrossFit or running. Both are great outlets and, frankly, if you weren’t concerned about wealth, who wouldn’t be focussing on wellness and longevity?
Regarding (i) and (ii), my family has been touched with cancer several times. My father and mother-in-law are both cancer survivors. My wife’s uncle, also a runner, was not so lucky. He was diagnosed with throat cancer and, despite treatment, succumbed to it. Cancer affects everyone and, adjusting for ahe and other risk factors, can impact anyone whatever their age or socio-economic status.
That’s it. I am sure there are are others with more compelling reasons, but whenever I run, these are the things that keep me running.
Appreciate any support. And thank you!
