Our story…
Join us in the race against ALS, a disease that has touched our hearts deeply. The McMaster Physics Department is taking on the Toronto Waterfront Marathon, fundraising for the ALS Society of Canada, a registered non-profit.
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a devastating neurodegenerative disorder that gradually robs those affected of their ability to eat, speak, move, and ultimately breathe. The ALS Society of Canada funds critical research, runs support groups, and provides financial assistance to families and caregivers facing this difficult journey.
Why ALS?
As the team captain, I am passionate about raising funds for the ALS Society in memory of my first track and field coach, Mrs. Buitendyk, who passed away from this disease. Mrs. B was more than a coach; she was a guiding light who believed in everyone's abilities and made you believe in yourself. Her kindness and encouragement are values I carry with me, and it’s in her memory that we strive to support the ALS Society.
Every dollar raised brings us one step closer to a world without ALS. Please support our team and this cause that means so much to us.
