My Story…
After a longer run recently I found myself doubting my ability to keep moving forward. My thighs felt like sandbags and were taking all my energy. In that moment I remembered a piece of encouragement my brother gave me years before on a shorter run. He said, "just keep putting one foot in front of the other and you'll get to your finish line."
My brother is currently serving overseas for his second deployment since joining the MN National Guard in 2000. As I thought about my struggle with running, it brought me to how much struggle my brother is facing currently, along with his fellow soldiers. He is away from his family and friends, from his routine and comforts, and spending the majority of his days serving in a multitude of ways. He and his fellow soldiers are doing this not for themselves, but for others.
I wanted to do the same; do hard things to benefit others. Which is why I am running my first marathon and raising money for the USO.
