Welcome, Sarcoma Slayers!

This is our 3^rd year participating in Steps to Cure Sarcoma!

While Sassy (Kathleen) and Kim are the returning OGs, our team of Sarcoma Survivors and Thrivers has grown to include a newly-diagnosed patient, John, whose fight against Myxoid Round Cell Liposarcoma began in June 2023 when he assumed that the discomfort in his hamstring was just a gym injury. Fearing a blood clot, a friend urged him to get his leg checked. It turned out to be Stage IV Cancer and that metastasized to his lungs. He continues to valiantly fight Sarcoma with chemotherapy/immunotherapy and is scheduled for surgery in April.

With a broken heart, we share that our dear friend Stephanie (standing next to Kim in the photo), who joined our team last year with her lovely sons, passed away in January. Stephanie fought Angiosarcoma for 6 years after having defeated breast cancer years prior. Stephanie’s determination to live and use every ounce of her energy to love her boys and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her was matched only by her grace and selflessness. Last year's Steps to Cure Sarcoma Walk was one of Stephanie's favorite events of the year. She recounted it for weeks and months afterward, particularly the part when her boys and she met a Broadway Star at a NJ Turnpike exit (on their way home after the walk). She will walk with us in spirit.
