Help Meghan raise money

I am thrilled to announce that I am participating in the 9th Annual RUCK4HIT on Cape Cod! This incredible adventure relay brings together teams of dedicated individuals who will run over 200 miles through all 15 towns on the Cape, starting in Bourne. Our mission? To raise awareness and funds for Heroes In Transition (HIT), an organization that provides critical support to our active duty military members, veterans, and their families.

I got involved with RUCK two years ago when I volunteered to work on the Physical Therapy Team out on the course to help the participants stay healthy throughout the event. I was in awe of the physical demand of the challenge and perseverance of the athletes -plus had a little fomo (fear of missing out) going on. That role developed into one of the training coordinators for the event. I led a 16-week cross training/ injury prevention program, which helped that year's participants elevate their performance. So, I guess naturally this developed into me recruiting and captaining a new Team “Oh deer, Why are we Here?” and actually running this thing with a 10lb Rucksack on my back.

The  deer is part of our team name as it reminds me of my late husband SSG Kurt Keller. He was an avid hunter and had a deer tattoo on his chest that he proudly displayed.  And, the reason why I am Rucking is for him. His sacrifice to our country and the invisible wounds he carried, which led him to commit suicide 17 years ago, serve as a powerful reminder of the challenges faced by our military members and veterans. 

Since his death, I have been committed to turning my pain into passion,  channeling it towards supporting organizations like HIT.   Services that HIT provides were not available when Kurt and I returned home from Iraq. HIT truly is a beacon of hope for those who have served our country and its programs make a significant impact on the lives of active duty members, veterans, and their families.
