Death Race Update
Hi |*FIRST_NAME*|,
We are just over five weeks until the 24th annual Canadian Death Race! Stop dunking that donut and cram in some KM while you can.
Take a moment to read the Racer Info Package and that should answer any of your outstanding questions.

BIB TRANSFER CUTOFF
I know y'all want to be out there on the course, but if you have to transfer your bib to someone else, you have until noon on July 26. At that point, we have to square away our paperwork and get ready for race day.
PARKING PASSES + TA200 SHUTTLE
Let's face it, TA200 (the transition between leg 1 and 2) is a bit bonkers, largely due to it being so early in the race, and growing popularity of the Near Death Marathon. The outcome is very little parking. So each year we hire a bus to take relay runners, support crews, and spectators to the start of that stage. We will be issuing parking passes for each transition area in order to ensure they are not packed with a bunch of extra people. Having a parking pass does not mean you will find parking - it can still be packed no matter what we do, so please carpool and do not bring unnecessary vehicles to the TAs.
The bus will depart from across corner of Hoppe and Shand Ave, just across from the start line, and will make rounds every 30 minutes or so. Make new friends, avoid the stress of parking - take the dang bus!
CUPLESS RACING + GELS
Just a reminder that we do not have cups at any of our aid stations on the course. That means you need your own cup, flask, bottle, or bladder to fill up. At main transitions, there are cups and bowls, primarily for hot food and drinks.
We also do not offer individually packaged gels. These wrappers get everywhere, even when people are careful. Sun River Honey provides bulk gel for us, so (once again) you need your own container. Or I'll just squeeze some into your mouth. Mmmmm!

We are always looking for perks to share with our competitors, and we've partnered up with some great brands to make that happen. Check out the updated Virtual Race Bag; we started this to help get paper coupons out of your swag bags, and this connects you right to each sponsor with a click. https://www.sinistersports.ca/deathrace/racebag

SOLO DROP BAGS
If you are a solo runner without a crew, you are able to use drop bags in order to have some of your favourite things at the main transition areas. Up to five drop-bags are allowed, and they will be placed at the appropriate TAs. If you are running the relay, please try and have any necessary gear with your teammates, but you are still allowed drop bags. Drop bags do not move from station to station, and they are only placed at the following locations:
- TA200
- TA300
- TA4400
- CP423
- TA500
TENT CITY
Tent City is a bit of a phenomenon in and of itself, isn't it? So many competitors camp here throughout the weekend. There has been talk about shifting the location a little bit due to construction, but so far it's steady as she goes. Tent City is located at the Baseball Diamonds at 104 Avenue & Memorial Drive (on the way to the Grande Cache Campground & Grande Cache Golf & Country Club).
CHECK-IN CHANGES
The MD of Greenview has undertaken a major renovation to the arena floor in the recreation centre, so we have to shift all the check-in activity over to the adjacent curling rink. Watch for signs when you arrive at the site.
This also means that we do not have room for the racer meeting, which will now be conducted outside in Central Park, right by the start line.
The post-race meal for the Solo, Marathon, and Relay runners will be held back in the curling rink.
WE NEED VOLUNEERS!
Volunteers add so much to the race, and it takes a lot of people to make CDR happen. Volun-tell everyone you know to sign up! We reward them all with great swag and fun times. This year, volunteers are getting a race neck gaiter (AKA "Buff" but it is not a Buff brand so I can't say that), a Fenix mini flashlight, and a cool little travel cutlery kit that our crew loves.

BREEZE THROUGH CHECK-IN
Race registration is open from 1:00-8:00pm on July 12. We are pretty efficient, and here are a few notes to help you cruise through registration:
- Come early. Registration opens at 1:00pm and it is usually a slow build-up until the racer meeting, when things get really busy. Someone else can register on your behalf if necessary, as long as we get a signed waiver. You can also shop the expo if you're there early.
- Waivers should have been signed online, but if you managed to sneak out of that somehow, download it here and bring - https://www.sinistersports.ca/deathrace/files/waiver.pdf.You cannot sign on behalf of someone else. No waiver = no race for you!
- Know your bib number. We will be assigning final bib numbers this coming week, and it helps you find your lane for check-in.
- Solos - if you are using drop bags, have them ready. You will have until 8:00pm Friday night to drop them off at registration. We have colour-coded tags for everything, you just need to write your bib number and drop them in the correct pile. You can put one drop bag at TA1, one at TA2/3, one at TA4, and one at TA5/6. We do not move drop bags from location to location. We take pretty much anything that is a reasonable size, just don't give us a huge bag or bin. They are all collected at HQ after the race.
- Teams - try and have your team together. We know that many of you are coming from different places but things tend to go a bit faster when you're all together. One person can register the entire team if we have all of the waivers.
We do not offer late registration at the start line. If you cannot be there on Friday night, please make alternative arrangements with us or have someone register on your behalf.
See you soon! Train hard and have fun out there.
Kindest regards,
Brian Gallant
