Raise money for The Stewards of Ghost Horse Hills
Blackfoot Ultra is excited to be helping out this wonderful small organization. Amber (Co-RD) brought her school to the Outdoor Classroom in 2022 and raved about the program. For 2024 and onwards, there is a change in the society to focus more on future stewardship activities while still providing outdoor education opportunities. The outdoor classroom portion has now become a mobile outdoor classroom that travels to different schools and introducing them to nature in the surrounding area.

Pioneer Trail North Foundation will be morphing into “The Stewards of Ghost Horse Hills”. We feel that this will reflect the new focus on our stewardship activities in the area — both Halfmoon Lake Natural Area and the Nature Conservancy of Canada Ghost Horse Hills property. We are long time stewards for both properties.
We are excited about reaching out to young people with the goal of encouraging them to become Volunteer Stewards. Just today we received an offer from three members of SAPAA (Stewards of Alberta’s Protected Areas Association) to come out and lead field trips and sessions to prospective Volunteer Stewards. Patsy Cotterill is a respected biologist who has developed plant lists for many of Alberta’s Natural Areas: Manna Parseyan is a geologist and an expert on native flowers; Hubert Taube is a lifetime steward and has been President of SAPAA for many years. These are just a few of the many experts that we will be able to draw on to help mentor the young people. We also have great contacts with the Nature Conservancy of Canada organization. In the past they have brought out John Acorn and other experts to help with butterfly and moth counts on the Ghost Horse Hills property.
We are members of SAPAA as well and have many contacts with stewards of other Natural Areas. We would like to arrange a few field trips to other Natural Areas such as 'Wagner Bog’ , ' North of Bruderheim’ and the ‘Clyde Fen’ so that students can visit various types of ecosystems.

Programs are based on an 80 acre paradise we call Iskwahtem, Cree for door or portal. Iskwahtem is nestled into 1400 acres of Natural Area and conservational lands. We are located 40 minutes north of Edmonton in the Ghost Horse Hills.
