My Story…
Welcome to my virtual fundraising page for the Philadelphia Marathon! The official charity for this race is American Association for Cancer Research (AACR). It is the world's oldest and largest organization dedicated to cancer research. I'm excited to fundraise for AACR because of my personal connection to its mission and my love of running.
Four of my close relatives have been diagnosed with at least one form of cancer. Both my mom and her mother had breast cancer and were able to live long lives with no reoccurrence. My Aunt Anne was diagnosed with pre-cervical cancer at 27 years old. She had her cervix removed that same year, with no reoccurrence. At 41 years old she was diagnosed with breast cancer, which she battled on three different occasions, for 13 years, until she died at 54.
Anne and I have a few things in common: our love of dogs, close ties to Southeastern Pennsylvania, and a passion for running. Anne was a phenomenal runner. She ran the Philadelphia marathon and even the Boston marathon. I have one of her victory steins for a 10k she ran (and won!) in Downingtown, PA. Fundraising the AACR will help end cancer for future generations for our family and so many other families.
Ever since I started running 13 years ago, my dream was to run the Boston marathon. This year, I hope to get closer to fulfilling that dream by running my second ever marathon in Philadelphia, one of my favorite cities. Qualifying for Boston requires either having a qualifying time from a previous marathon (3h:30m) or fundraising $7500 through an approved charity. As the saying in running goes: if you can run more than half the distance of your goal race, you're going to finish strong. If I can fundraise more than half of the Boston qualifying amount, I’m sure I can get in and finish strong. Please donate to my page to help me get closer to this goal!
